HENSALL
A meeting of the business melt of
Mensal; was held receutly in the
Council Chambers with regard to the
Red Shield Home Front 'Appeal. The
decision of the meeting was that
Jas. Paterson, Reeve R. E, Sha[klick
and W, 0. Goodwin will canvass the
business section while the personnel
of the Salvation Army from Seaforth
will canvass the residential part of
the village ou Monday, Sept, 21st•
The representatives of the S.A. pres-
ent were Major P. White of Wood-
stock and Capt. 0. Phippen of Sea-
forth, The appeal is to support war
work of the S.A. outside miltary
areas and home front.
The regular meeting of the senior
Mission Circle of the United Church
was held on Thursday evening,
Sept. lOth with Miss Gladys McKen-
zie as hostess. The meeting was held
at the home of Mrs, McKenzie, who
assisted Miss McKenzie. The meet-
ing opened with the theme song
followed by the Lord's prayer and
hymn 377. Mrs. Vera Smale led in
prayer and Mrs. Eric Kennedy read
the scripture lesson. A devotional
reading, "Our Prayer Life," by Mrs,
Mobarnon, Miss June Sundereock
read the minutes of the previous
meeting after which the roll call and
a period of business followed. The
topic, "Turbid Waters," a story based
on Chinese peasant life, was given
by Miss Douglas and was much en-
joyed by all present. The meeting
closed with hymn 384 and the Mizpah
benediction. Mrs . Lorne Elder of
Hamilton presided throughout the
meeting.
Mr, and Mrs. C. Forret and Mr.
and Mrs. John Haggit, all of Detroit,
visited on Sunday with their relat-
ives, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wolfe.
Harvest Home services were held
in Carmel Presbyterian Church on
Sunday, Sept. 13th. The church was
beautifully decorated for the oc-
casion. Rev. Wm. Weir preached ap-
propriate sermons in keeping with
the spirit of thankfulness. Special
music by the choir under the leader-
ship of W. A, MacLaren consisted of
the following anthems,morning,
"The Lord of Harvest praising," and
"Give Thanks." In the evening a
beautiful anthem, "Still Still with
Thee," was rendered by the choir,
with Miss Irene Hoggarth as soloist.
The sacrament of the Lord's Sup-
per will be observed in Carmel Pres-
byterian Church on Sunday, Sept. 20,
at the morning service. The usual
preparatory service will be held on
the preceding Friday evening.
Harvest Thanksgiving services will
be held in St. Paul's Anglican Church
on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m, and
7 p.m. Guest speakers will be, in the
morning, Rev. E, Grigg, returned
missionary from India, and in the
evening Squadron Leader the Rev. G
Cra.nkshaw, padre of Centralia air
port.
Mr, and Mrs. MacLaren Inglis of
Kitscoty, Alberta, were recent visit-
ors with the fornmer's aunt and uncle,
Mrs. Wm, Dow and Mr. W. J. Inglis
of town, Mr., and Mrs, Inglis were On
their' way house from Montreal where

Mr. and 1Ylrs. R. J. Moore and fam-
ily are renewing acquaintanees in
Hensall before leaving for Aylmer
where Mr. Moore will teach daring
the coming term.

ed recently with their parents rn

Hensall friends of Rev, Malcolm
Gillis will be pleased to know that
he has received a call from Western
Catada to Mt. Bridges. Mr, and Mrs.
Gillis and family were former resid-
ents of Hensall. Mr. Gillis will have
two other charges.
Church Notes—
The sacrament of the Lord's. Sup-
per will be observed at the morning
service of Carmel Presbyterian
Church this coming Sunday. The pre-
paratory service will be held on Fri-
day night.
Rev. D. J, Lane, B.A., of the Pres-
byterian Church, Clinton, will preach
at both services at Carmel Church on
Sunday, Sept. 27th, at which time
Mr. Weir will conduct anniversary
services at Clinton, Mr. Lane is well
known in Hensall and his visit will
be greatly appreciated.
Rev. and Mrs. H, K, Caster of
Grand Valley and their daughter
Yvonne are visiting at the manse
this week.
Rally Day services at Carmel Pres-
byterian Church are to be held on the
first Sunday in October. This is one
week later than usual owing to the
absence of the minister on Sept. 27th,
Special music and an appropriate
message are being prepared for this
special service in connection with
the children's work.

Boiled Salad Dressing
1/2 cup vinegar
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspon salt, dash of pepper.
Mix web, Cook the mixture in a
double boiler until it thickens, stir-
ring constantly to keep it smooth.
Cool and then add 1 cup of cream
gradually, or fold in 'whipped cream
just before using.
