TUCKERSMITH
Many relatives and friends at-
tended the funeral of Mrs. Roger
Pepper at her residence, Victoria
street, Clinton, on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Pepper, the former Matilda
Churchill, died at the hone of John
Pepper, Brucefield in her 86th year.
She was born in Toronto in 1856, a
daughter of the late 113. and Mrs.
Fitzgerald Churchill. At the age of
19 she married Henry Carter, who
died in 1918. They had farmed in
Goderich and Tuckersmith townships
and later moved to Clinton. On Au-
gust 16, 1924, she married Roger
Pepper, who died in October, 1940.
Of her family of two sons and two
daughters by her first marriage, only
one daughter (Annie) Mrs. John
Pepper, Brucefield, - survives. Six
grandchildren and six great grand-
children also survive. The funeral
services were conducted by Rev. G.
G. Barton, pastor of Ontario street
and Turner's United churches, and
burial was made in Turner's ceme-
tery. The pallbearers were Lorne,
Ray and Randall Pepper, Frank Mc-
Gregor, John McGregor and Alton
Johnston.

A highly respected resident of
Hibbert township, 'Mrs. Sane Burns,
celebrated her 83rd birthday at her
home on Sunday. Dinner was served
to 25 guests, including her own fam-
ily and several grandchildren and
great grandchildren. The table was
centred with a beautiful' birthday
cake, with 83 candles and ingenious-
ly embedded in the cake was a music
box which chimed "Happy Birthday
to You." 'Mrs. Burns was the recip-
ient of many congratulations and
dainty gifts. She is enjoying good
health and takes an active interest in
all current affairs, Her husband died
in 1925. She has two daughters, Mrs,
Mary d. O'Rourke,. Detroit, and Miss
Katherine at home, also four sons,
James, Mack, and Dan, Hibbert, and
Frank, Dublin, also 18 grandchildren
and 20 great grandchildren.

Patriotic co-operation among the
business men of Dublin has been evi-
dent during the harvest season when
at various times' they have gone to
assist the farmers stooking and haul-
ing in their grain. Among those who
assisted were W. Mathers, D. Costel-
lo, G. Holland, F. Burns and W. Car-
penter.
Dan Burns had the misfortune to
lose one of his best cows, when -the
top of his well had been lifted off
and inadvertently forgotten to be re-
placed. Later when he missed the
cow it was found down in the well.
Mrs. Katharine Benninger . attend-
ed the Benninger -Flannery wedding
at Seaforth Saturday.

Little Myrtle Knox, young daugh-
ter of Mr, and Mrs. Ernest Knox,
who has been sick with pneumonia
following influenza, is improving
and the nurse, Miss Yungblut, who
was in charge, left on Monday.

the barn on Monday afternoon.

BRUCEFIELD
Death of Mr. Harry Collins.—
The village was saddened on Thur-
sday when it heard of the sudden
death of Mr. Harry Collins. Although
his health was never good, his death
caste as a great shock, and Mr. Col-
lins, or better known to his friends
as Harry, will be greatly missed not
only by his fancily to whom he was
much devoted, but the village and
especially the Patriotic Society of
which he was the secretary and in
which he took a great interest. Mr.
Collins eras born in Kingstown, Ire-
land, and was in his 52nd year. He
spent one year in Sierra Leone, and
five years in South Africa with the
Imperials, coming to Canada in 1915
later enlisting in Toronto in the 30th
Battery. In February, 1920, he mar-
ried Margaret McKenzie of Bruce -
field, and moved to Brucefield in
1922 where he kept a general store,
but owing to very poor health result-
ing from his war service, he had to
give this up, but continued to live in
the village arid proved a very worthy
citizen. He was a member of the
Brucefield Untied Church. He leaves
to mourn his loss his wife, formerly
Margaret McKenzie, one seen, Harry
Alexander, a medical student at Wes-
tern University, London, and one
daughter Norma at home, and his
aged mother, one brother and four
sisters in England, and one brother
in Gambia, W. Africa. ,The funeral
was held from his home on Saturday
at 2 p.m. and was conducted by his
pastor, Rev. G. F. N. Atkinson, ass-
isted by Rev. W. A. Bremner of Sea -
forth. The pallbearers were Lindsay
Eyre, Lyle Hill, J. K. Cornish, Jos-
eph McCully-, Ross Scott and H. F.
Berry. Interment took place in
Baird's cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith and
son of London spent a few days with
Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Cornish.
Mrs. Alice Hohner spent a few
days in Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Wheeler spent
the week end in Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Ranald McKenzie of
Detroit and Lois attended the funer-
al of the late Mr. H. Collins.
We are very sorry to report that
Mrs. Seldon Ross is very ill in Sea -
f orth hospital. We hope she will soon
be better.

riotic Society,

ing over the week end and holiday at

and Mrs Leo Watt and other friends.
