Pilot Officer Lar- ry Robillard of Ottawa (left) was decorated with the Distinguished Ulying Modal. He has a score of four aircraft destroyed and one "probable." The Distinguished Flying Cross was .presented to Flight Sergeant B. C. Paige of Bridgeport, Ont., (2) after he safely navigated a Hudson bomber and its crew to its base, The aircraft flew so low in au attaolt on enemy shipping that one wing -tip clipped a pt'ojeetiug,rock, disabling the starboard engine, rendering all instruments and turret unserviceable and extinguishing the lights, To Wing Commander Thomas C. Ordinarily the Province would pay approximately half of this, The bylaw was sent to the De- partment of Highways for ratifica- tion, A few days ago it was returned, with the original figure of 9180,000 reducers to $100,000, plus a warning that no subsidy will be paid on new roads—only onmaintenance, Reductions in township programs are even more marked. Goderich township has been reduced' from $6,- 000 to $3,000, Stanley from 98,000 to $3,400, Tuckersmith from $9,000 to - 93,800, and Hay from $8,000 to $3,200. In- some townships, notably Stanley and Goderich, damage done to cul- verts by the heavy rain of March 16 is said to be as much as $2;000. This was not taken account of by the Gov- ernment in reducing the amount no which the subsidy would be paid and it is feared money will not be avail- able for ordinary worst. Recently the. county woad commis- sion toured the County highways and founts much storm damage to cul- verts. Peter Ferguson Dies At Winnipeg— Ward was received at Brussels of the death of a former resident of the community, in the person of Peter Ferguson of Winnipeg. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ferguson of Grey township, Oth con- cession. When he was a young man he left for the West where he spent the rest of his life.
