Bride -Elect Honored

Following the practice on Thurs-
day evening last the members of the
United Church choir retired to the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Jarrott to
make a presentation to one of their
members, Gladys Jarrott, bride -elect
of Saturday. An address was read by
Mrs. Ernie Chipchase and the pres-
entation of a handsome wall mirror
was made by Miss Jean Ivison.
Gladys in a few well chosen words
thanked the choir. A social hour was
spent and a dainty lunch was served.
In honour of Miss Gladys Jarrott,
bride -elect, a miscellaneous shower
wasiield at the hone of her parents,
Mr, and Mrs. J. Jarrott; on Tuesday
evening with about ninety ladies pre-
sent. An address was read by Mrs.
A. McBeath after which the presents
were brought in in a decorated bas-
ket by Mrs. Mellis and Miss I. Fer-
guson. After receiving the many use-
ful gifts Gladys thanked the friends
M a few appropriate words and all
joined in singing "For She's A Jolly
Good Fellow," The guests were then
invited to "see the trousseau which
was displayed by Audrey Cochrane.
The linens were shown by Irma Fel,
a'uson and the dishes by Mrs, A. Me -
Beath.
Smith-Jarrott Nuptials—
The hone of Mr. and Mrs. John
Jarrott, Kipper, was the scene of a
pretty wedding on Saturday, April
4th at 12 o'clock noon when their
only daughter, Gladys Mae Elizabeth,
became the bride of Edgar Hugh
Smith, only son of Mr. and Mrs, Her-
bert Smith of Varna. The ceremony
was performed before a prettily de-
corated arch of cedar and roses by
Rev. A. M. Grant, Given in marriage
by her father, the bride chose a be-
coming floor length gown of pale
blue net with taffeta inserts in the
skirt and taffeta bolero. Her head-
dress was a band of orange blossoms.
The' bride's bouquet was a sheaf of
Ophelia roses. The bridesmaid, Miss
Mae Smith of Varna, sister of the
groom, chose a floor length gown of
pink frosted organza and carried a
sheaf of white carnations and maid-
en hair fern. Pte, Clayton Campbell
of Cornwall was best duan. The wed- i
ding march was played by Miss Aud-
rey Cochrane of Seaforth. The house .
decorations were in colour schemes
of pink and white. The bridal table
centred with the wedding cake and
pink and white candles and vases of
pink snapdragons, Those serving
Were Misses Edna Dayman of Lon-
don, Wanda Baker of Clinton, Irma
Ferguson of Kippen and Mrs, K. Col=
borne of Seaforth, assisted by Mrs.
W. Mollis and Miss J. Ivison of Kip -
pen, The bride's mother, Mrs. Jar-
rett, received' in a navy sheer dress'
with corsage of pink carnations. The
groom's mother, Mrs. Smith, wore a
black sheer dress with corsage of
pink carnations. The groom's gift to
the bride was a gold locket, to the
bridesmaid silver salt and pepper
shakers, to the groomsman a Water-
man pen and pencil set, to the pian-
ist a silver bonbon dish.
Later the bride and groom left on
a motor trip for London, Wallace-
burg and Chatham. The bride wore a
tailored teal bine suit with matching
accessories. On their return they will
reside in Guelph. Guests were pres-
ent from Cornwall, Niagara -on -the -
Lake, Guelph, London, Clinton, Var-
na, Seaforth, Brucefield, Hensall and
Hillsgreen.
W.M.S. Meet.—
The
eet—.The W.M.S. met on Wednesday
afternoon at the manse for their
Easter meeting. The program from
the Missionary Monthly was followed
with Mrs. James Finlayson presiding.
The devotional period was in charge
of Mrs. J. Finlayson and Mrs. Grant.
Mrs: W. Sinclair led in prayer. The
topic was in charge of Mrs. Allan
Johnson and she was assisted by Mrs
Grant,. Mrs. Forsyth, Mrs. McMurtrie
and Miss Margaret Sinclair. The
meeting closed with a hymn and the
benediction by Mrs, Finlayson. A,
dainty lunch was served by the host-
ess.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Melick and chil-
dren of Goderich were holiday guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McGregor and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Stackhouse of
London visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Bell on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Crich and Master
James, also Mrs. Grace Ross of Sea -
forth, Mr. •and Mrs. Lennis Seaman
and'children'and Miss Brown of Kit-
chener, also Mrs. Reynolds of Toron-
to were Sunday guests of Mr. and
Mrs, Robt. McGregor and family.
Mr. Jonah Green arrived home
from Thedford where he spent the
winter with his brother and family.
Mrs. C. Heiser accidentally fell on
the pavement at her home which has
confined her to her room for several
days. She is being attended by her
granddaughter from Clinton,
Kippen East W. I. will hold • their'
regular monthly meeting at the
home of Mrs. Morley Cooper on Tues-
day, April 14th, et 2.15 p.m. Roll call
will be payment of fees, Boxes will
be' packed for the boys overseas and
any donations either brought to the
meeting or left in the stores at Kip -
pen will be gratefully accepted.
