The Voice Of Temperance
A DRY WISECRACK
Reeve John Graham of God-
erich hit the headlines recently.
At a meeting of the Goderich
Town Council he gave his views
on the Canada Temperance Act,
The possibility of getting a vote
in Goderich or (Huron County
with a view to repeal, was un-
der discussion,
"is that if opinion", the the
town voted, it
would go wet, but if the whole
'County voted it would stay dry,
as it is now. Of course", he
added, "that's not very dry."
Reeve Graham is probably
correct in his prediction, but his
laugh line is ridiculous. Actually
Huron County is very dry com-
pared with most if not all the
other Counties in Ontario. The
proof lies in Alcoholics Statist-
ics released by the Alcoholism
Research Foundation of Ont-
ario not long since. In a list of
seven Counties given, Middle-
sex leads with 3160 alcoholics
per 100,000 of population, Hur-
on County is lowest with 750
alcoholics per 100,000, Only
is
undeHuron, counties of the he C.T.A. Farless liquor
flows here, for we have no leg-
alized liquor outlets.
They're all as near
as your telephone
IT'S NICE TO KNOW — especially when
you are alone at night — that you have
only to pick up the telephone to summon
the police or fire department — call the
doctor—ask neighbors or friends for help.
The speed and dependability of the
telephone and of the operators behind it not
only mean prompt help in emergencies large
and small, but a comforting sense of security
through all the hours of day and night.
In time of need, no dollars can measure the
value of your telephone.
