Samuel 'L.. (Davidson, freight .Agent for the 'Canadian Pacific Railroad in, Portage la Prairie since May, 1955, Will-otlfit.iallY retire from his job June 30 with ' more than 44 years of manroad- ing behind hien. • Mr. Davidson first joined the railroad in Feb. 1912, at Boisse- vain, Man., es an assistant agent. He remained there for one month, then was transferred to Arcola, 'Sask., as an operator. In 1916 he moved to Deloraine, where he remained for 2 years. His first post as agent was at Balmoral, where he remained for 12 years, until 'Sept. 1930. Mr. 1Davidson 'then moved into the 'Portage area, with his first post alt 'Macdonald, from _Sept. 1930 to . Nov.. 1952. He was prominent in the Macdonald area, (being extremely active in civic affairs. !His nesot posting was at High Bluff, and after two years he was transferred to 'Carberry, where he remained for slightly more than one year prior to com- ing to Portage !le Pairie. Mr. Davidson %vas born at Walton, 'Ont., June 20, 1891. He married M. W. (Main ih Balmoral on Nov. 12, 1919. They have (three sons, ,Edwin, Leonard and Ray, all farming at ,Macdonald. iMr. and (Mss. A reception honoring IMr. Da- vidson was held Tuesday night at Prosvita shall, and he was pre- sented with a pulse of money by J. L. 'Smith, (Portage tele- graph lineman, on behalf of his co-workers. Attending from Winnipeg were 111. E. McE%ven, superintend, ant of Pottage division; L. W. Fogg, assistant superintendent; G. N. Henry, chief dispatcher; J. B. MciFetridge, division engin- eer; and J. B. 'Sullivan, travel- ling freight agent. Agents from other poinits in attendance were,Bob Pennie, Neepawa; George Woad, 'Poplar Point; Ken Routley, Austin; Geo. Dothie, Westbourne; Walter (Robson, 'Carberry; F'1•ed Dyer, 'Macdonald; and J. A. Ross, re- lief agent replacing Mr. David- son until his successor is ap- pointed. Mr, Davidson received a num- ber of wires from railroad offi- cials and friends. IMr. Davidson is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Da- vidson of IMcKillep, who lived east of 'Leadbury. He attended S. S. 9, McKillop. Mr. 'Davidson has four sisters and a (brother: Margaret, Mrs. Calvin Hillen, of MeK.illop; !Miss Bessie Davidson and Ed Davidson of 'Walton; Maude, Mrs. Gorley of .Emerson, Man., and Mrs. Mabel Alien of •Saskatoon. KIPPEN The WMS met on Wed. after- noon for their annual Baby Band picnic at the home of IMrs. Em- erson Anderson, with 'Mrs. E. Jarrott as co hostess. Mrs. 3. Mc- Lellan presided and opened the meeting with the singing of chidren's 'hymns. Mrs, H. Fink- beiner was in charge of the wor- ship. Mrs. E. Jarrott and' Mrs. N. McLeod's Sunday School class were appointed to arrange flow- ers in the church for July. No. 14, ,Stanley, with her pupils and their .parents held their picnic in the Lions Park it Seaforth last week. Following a sumptuous picnic supper the following sports were enjoyed. F/'L 'Thomas Reid, formerly an adjutant at the RCAF Clin- ton has purchased the' fine brick residence of Miss Etta Jarrott south of the village, getting pos- session on Aug. 25th, at which time he and his wife and .family will move in. We welcome them to this district. Mr. N. 'McLeod of Ottawa spent the weekend with his par- ents, Rev. and Mrs. N. McLeod at the manse.. The annual congregational picnic of 'Cavan 'Church will be held on Thursday, July 19 and each family is asked to bring cold ,meat, salads, pie and cook- ies. Ice cream and ,drinks will be supplied. A very enjoyable evening was spent in Winthrop hall on Fri- day evening when friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hulley'hon ored them following their recent marriage. Dancing was enjoyed to Howe's Orchestra of 'Crom- arty, and later an address was read by Oliver Pryce and a stu- dio 'couch, two chairs and a purse of money were presented to them.
