Remembers When
Sidewalks Removed
An interesting bit of informa-
tion concerned with the discus-
sion on widening Goderich 'St.
is told by a lifelong resident of
'Seaforth. Without taking- sides,
he informed The News that the
can remember when the present
cement sidewalks on Goderich
St. were laid.
The original wooden side-
walks were inside the trees on
Goderich St. and were left in
place until after the new walks
were in 'use. The travelled por-
tion of the road was narrowed
by laying the cement sidewalks
outside the trees and putting in
a cement curb.
No one could know at that.
time, he said, that a ,bitter con-
troversy would develop half a
century later from these at-
tempts to beautify the street.
