Mr-Mrs.Bruce Medd
'On Wednesday of this week,
April 18th, Mr. and Mrs. F.
Bruce Medd, .North Main St., are
celebrating 'their golden wed-
ding anniversary. Mr, Medd is
son ofihe late John H. Medd and
was born on lot Q'5, con. 7, of
Mullett. His wife, Annie 'Stuart,
is a daughter of the late Alexan-
der Leitch. They were married at
the Home of her parents, lot 15,
con. 6, 'Mullett, by the late Rev.
A. K. Birk, -then pastor of .Sea -
forth Methodist '(now Northside
United) Chureh, at 5 p.m. in the
presence of near relatives, A
wedding supper followed the
'ceremony.,
The Medd's farmed on lot 17,
con. 6, Mullett, before he and
his brother purchased the Exet-
er enenmery from John Scott,
andeltrube was manager and
treasurer until 1919' when they
moved to MoKillap twp., two
miles north of Seaforth.
He was elected to the muni-
cipal council in 1920 and after
serving as councillor for seven
years was asked to accept the
treasurership, .and was township
treasurer for 13 years.
The [County of :Huron appoint-
ed 'him patrolman in 1927 for
the North Road 'between Sea -
forth and Winthrop, which he
held until power machinery took
over. They retired to ,Seaforth
in November 1951.
Mr. and 'Mrs, .Medd •have two
daughters, Olive Viola, Mrs. Ed-
mund Godkin, of Walton: and
Ida Ilene, Mrs. William Living-
ston, Seaforth, R.' R. 2. The God-
kins have a faintly of six and the
Livingstone two. The Medd's
have atso two great grandchild-
ren.
A golden wedding anniversary
dinner was !prepared by their
daughters on Sunday, April 15,
aa a surprise for Mr, and Mrs.
Medd, and was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. William Living-
ston.
The tables .were decorated
with golden yellow mums and
emblems suggesting- the en-
chantment of the event,
After the enjoyment of a lovely
areal the Medd'; were presented
with gifts for remembrance and
tokens of respect and best
wishes.
,Speaking for the family Mrs.
.Beverley 'Alexander, a grand-
daughter, expressed their wishes
as follows:
"Today's a day to call your own,
Remember many joys you've known,
Reflect on many dreams come true,.
And all the years have brought to you.
And as it means so much to you,
It does to those who know you, too,
Because it brings a chance to say:
Best wishes on your Golden Day.' "

Crossroads '56
Bigger Success
With an attendance slightlY
above last year and proceeds ex-
pected to be in the neighborhood
of $350.00 clear, the [Seaforth
Agricultural Society is well
pleased aibh their second an-
nual showing of "Crossroads".
A cast of 90, at Sewforth, pre-
sented "'Crossroads' '56". a
community production of songs,
music and dancing. Using •a new
theme it was a repetition of last
year's hit with James R. Scott
again the producer.
The show was pxesented on
Thursday and Friday nights.
Mrs. Paul Brady was general
convener, assisted by Mrs. John
C'ardno and Eric ,McCue in
charge of 'musie; Pauline Gal
braibh and Mrs. C. E. :Smith,
dancing; James A. Stewart and
Miss Mabel Turnbull, choirs.
Starring in the show were
''rankSills, a 'Scottish immi-
grant, [about whom the story re-
volves; Dalton 'Reid, his chief
adviser; Larry Wheatley, a
rogue and imposter• Faye Love,
the 'charmer; Gus 'Boussey and
!Orvil!le 'Oke, night club charact-
ers; Mrs. J. A. ,Stewart, mother;
.Lois Hamilton, as Jeannie; Fred
Willis, a millionaire; June Bous-
sey, a drunkard's .daughter, and
Fred Snow, the judge.
Eight little 'Scottish dancers
delighted the audience :with num-
bers 'to music on the pipes hY

foot in charge of lighting.
Gordon Wright was responsi-
ble for stage sets; Miss M. Turn-
bull, Mrs. K. I, McLean- and
Mrs. Elmer Larone, make-up.

ing out on the local race track,
the members of the racing assn-
ciation at Seaforth are looking
forward to a (busy season.
No date has bean set( yet for
a local meet, [but it is expected
to be •arranged soon for earlly
August or possibly August 15,

Some improvements have been
made to the stable at the track
and the tack room for harness
is (being fixed up, It isalso hop-

ey, secretary, and Jack'Gampbeil

Elects Officers
The annual .meeting of St. Co-
lumban subdivision of the Cath-
olic Woman's League was held
Monday evening. The president,
Mrs, Jos. Kale, opened the meet

Mg. 'A resume of the highlights
of [C.W.L, activities for 1955 was
given by the various officers. 1st
vice president Mss. Maurice Me -
lady, reported 116 paid up mem-
bers, Second vice pres., Mrs. Ted
Melady, reported used clothing,
literature, holy cards and Xmas
cards were sent to Father O'Fla-
herty to be used among his In-
dians. A book was donated to
each school in the parish. Pins
were presented to Grade 8 grad-
uates.. Third vice pros„ Mrs.
John F. Murphy reported 5 box-
es sent to the sick, 4Carde were
sent to sick and shut-ins at
Christmas, Get well messages
were sent to patients in the hob-
pital. The altars were cared for
earth month by ladies of the par-
ish. :Corresponding Sec., Mrs.
Jos. Malone reported 61 letter's
written, nine get -well cards and
39 letters received. The Purga-
torial Society reported 84 mem-
bers' Magazine Convenor, Mrs.
Wm. McMillan reported eleven
subscriptions. The treasurer's
report given 'by 'Mrs. Angus
Kennedy indicated a very suc-
cessful year. 'Receipts were
$•3,864.79 and $2945.00 was giv-
en to our Parish Fund. During
the year money was raised by
hammy, baking sales, play, penny
sale, card parties in the homes,
teas and bingos.
Father .McCowen thanked the
Pres., executive and members
for their co-operation during the
year and urged each and every-
one to 'be active in all work in
the coming year. Mrs. Kale then
thanked Father McCowen for his
help and guidance throughout
the year. The new officers for
1956 were then installed.

The regular meeting of the
Seaforth Women's. Institute was
held at the home of Mrs. Lorne
Carter on (Thursday, April 12 at
2 o'clock with a large attend-
ance. Roll call was answered by
payment of tees. This was our
annual meeting with our treas-
urer's report and reports from
all standing committees, We re-
ceived bhankyoil notes Pram Mrs,
John Wood, Mrs. Tom Richard-
son and Ann Field Plane Insti-
tute in England. Five resolu-
tions 'were passed and sent on
to our district resolution con-
vener, Mrs.'James F. Scott.
Mrs. James Keyes gave a report
on the past 'dub and the spring'
project. The new one is "Supper
!Club", and sounds very interest-
ing. The Nominating 'Committee
gave their report and Mrs. Gui-
don Papple conducted the elec-
tion of officers and the installa-
tion

yet on an office for the P.U,C.
but both the town and the com-
mission are working on it,

The regular meeting of the
Home and School was held on
Tuesday, April•17 at Seaforth
Public School with the President
Mrs. J. Patterson in 'the chair.
The meeting was opened by
Meta Reeves, Nancy Dale and
'Craig Mall,: pupils of Miss Turn
bull's class, Grade 5. !Little Ruth
Ann Wilson favoured with two
solos, "Tire Bible tells ane so"
and "A Lovely Little Petunia in
an Onion Patch" accompanied
by Mrs. Tom Flynn. Mrs. James
was Mother of the 'Month having
her youngest child in Grade 8.
Mrs. 'Ross Hamilton sang two
solos, "'Sunshine of .your. Smile"
and "Look for the :Silver. Lin-
ing", accompanied'hy Mrs. Dave
Stewart. Mrs. Boswell's class
won the dollar for haling the
most tyareets present. Mies Barr,

Kenneth Rome, Seaforth, was
:winner of the jeep in last week's
draw at the Fine service station.
Mr'.'Rome is a C.N.R. section
worker.

A general meeting of the Wo-
man's Association of Northside
United 'Church was held en Wed-
nesday 'afteranaon. The • meeting
opened with Mrs. Lawson con-
ducting the worship period. The
scripture was Psalm 16 and .Mrs.
Lawson read a supplement which
was followed by prayer. The
vresident, Mrs. 'Christie opened
the business portion' with the
motto and the W. A. theme. The
minutes were read and approved,
The corresponding secretary,
Mrs. (Close, reported she had
sent out 22 boxes of !fruit or.
flowers and seven sympathy
cards. The visiting committee
reported 20 home and 6 hospital
calls. The group reports were
encouraging. The 'treasurer's re-
port showed a substantial bal-
ance in the bank. Mrs. Murdie
reporting for the parsonage cora
niittee said some re -decorating
had been done and some new
furnishings !purchased. A sum of
money 'was voted to the building
fund. It was decided to cater to
a dinner an the 12th of July.

ing with prayer and the Mizpah

E. HOFFMAN RESIGNS
Mr. Evan 'Hoffman has re-
signed from the staff of Sea -
forth Public .School to take a po-
sition at Burlington, comment-
ing in .September. Mr. 'Hoffman
has taught here for three years.

home of Mrs. F. Kling on April
11 was a decided success. Mrs.
Kling and Mrs. W. J. Stewart

Barn Burned
In McKillop
Fire Monday morning destroy-
ed the barn on the farm of Jerry
Dom on the McKillop township
east boundary, west of • Brodhag-
en. The blaze wiped out the barn,
a horse, five calves and some pigs
and 100 bags of seed grain. Mr.
Doerr, who is a McKillop council-
lor, is in Scott Memorial hospital.
At borne when the Ore was dis-
covered about 6.30 a.m. were Mrs.
Doerr and three children, Betty
and Bobby, 10 year old twins,
and Kathleen, 10._Mrs, Doerr saw
the Darn in flames, and within
minutes of the time she saw the
Ore, neighbors telephoned to say
they could see the barn burning.

both Seaforth and Mitchell, and
worked to protect the house
against spread of the Ore, The
barn was beyond Pope when the
firemen arrived. The loss includ-
ed some livestock, about 500 bu-
shels of grain in the 'granary,
and the fertilizer which was in
readiness for spring seeding. Also
destroyed were a iiann'erntill, a
hayloacler and wagon.

Mr. ' Doerr is a patient in the
hospital at Seaforth where he
underwent an operation on April
9. Ile had been making favorable
recovery after surgery, and had
been expected hone from hospi-
tal this week. Member's of the
family and a doctor went to the
hospital Monday morning to give
him the news of the fire.
Neighbors came quickly and
worked hard to save most of the
livestock in the barn, and all the
livestock which was saved is now
housed in neighbors` stables. The
nrillcing cows are at the farm of
Alvin Beuerman, a son-in-law.
