Shade of Eg-, nrondville, believes he has a genuine Stradivarius violin, Al- though unable to play himself he has been told his instrument has the right color, shape, size and tone. Inscribed on the inside of the violin is `Antonius Stradi- varius, Cremonensis 'Faciebat Anno 1730' making the violin 225 years old. Mr. Shade says there were more than 200 'Stands' made costing all the way from $25,- 000 up in price. Mr. Shade said he has had some good offers for this one. The story of this violin goes back many years to when Mr. Shade was a lad of six years. At that time a boarder by the name of George Hoskin stayed at the Shade home, Mr. Hoskin was musically inclined and also liked to travel. Prior to coming to the Shade home he had toured Eur- ope and Australia, He is believed to have pur- chased the violin in a pawn shop in England, and when he left Egmondville left the violin as a gift to be played by members of the family. "Many of .the country schools have only one door with the stairs inside the building. In ease of fire the pupils wouldn't have a dhance." Afire in a•rural school -would almost certainly start in the basement, Mr. ,Scott contends, 'and would cut off escape by the door, Windows in most cases are covered 'with heavy steel netting 'which would prevept es- cape. Anyway the drop from the windows in most eases is eight or ten feet, Mr. Scott said. Mr. Scott said he hoped to seek the help of the Deps} nt of Education to get ae safety measures as local sehael boards will not -do anything that might cost a few dollars. An escape slide would pro- vide a quick way, of getting pup- ils out of schools and would not cost more than $100, he said. These are much in use in the States, he claims.
