THE THRIFTY KIPPENETTES
The first meeting for this
year was held Saturday after-
noon, Dee. -3 at the home of Mrs.
W. J. Bell, the club leader. The
meeting opened with singing,
"The anore are get together" and
repeating the 4-'H pledge. The
project is "What shall I Wear?"
It was decided to keep the same
name as last year. The girls were
divided in two groups and the
officers were elected. The Tues.
evening group are Pres,, Marie
Jarrett; Sec., Eileen McLean;
Press 'Reporter, Margaret Wood;
Radio Reporter, Bonnie Kyle.
Record books were discussed and
colors suitable for 'different
types of girls were demonstrat-
ed. Lunch was served 'by the
hostess. Next meeting is to be
Dee. 6 at the Thome of Mrs. Wan.
lealdwell, assistant leader.
'Hone assignment is to find
material suitable in colour for
a dainty type of 'girl and for a
dramatic type. This to be the
roll call also. It was decided
by the girls not to serve lunch
at future meetings.

Mr. John Tapp
Mr. John Tapp well-known
flensaid resident passed away at
the Thamer Nursing Home,
Seaforth, in his 80th year. Sur-
viving is one son, Dr. James S.
Tapp of Alcatel!, Alabama,
Funeral services were held at
1.30 p.nl. on Monday from the
Bonthron funeral bone con-
ducted by the Rev. C, D. Daniel.
Interment in Hensall Union
Cemetery.
Mr. Frank Peart
:lir. Frank Peart passed away
in South Huron Hospital, Exet-
er following s. heart attack. The
deceased was in his 69th year
and has been employed in the
coal :business with the late Da-
vid Cantelon, W. R. Davidson,
now of Port 'Colborne, Lorne

A successful presentation of
Gilbert and 'Sullivan's (Operetta,
"The Mikado", in two acts, was
held in St. Patrick's Parish Hall,
Dublin, by the •students of the
Dublin 'Continuation IS ch o o 1.
This 'Operetta is a musical com-
edy with a Japanese setting, The
story takes 'place in Titipu, a
main city of Japan, It is an ex-
ageration of some peculiar Jap-
anese customs, and the haughti-
ness of the {English creates some
stimulating daughter. The Mi-
kado, a cruel, ruthless villain,
and Emperor of Japan was play-
ed by Neil 'Stapleton. Nanki-
Poo, his son, 'played by It.
Lane, fled from his feather's
court for fear of being forced to
marry an elderly lady, Katisha,
played iby'Catherine Moylan. He
became a wandering minstrel
and in his travels met' and felt in
love with Yum Yum (Joan Dal-
ton), one of three sisters who
were wards of Ko -Ko. The other
sisters were Pitti'Sing (Marie
O'Connor) and Peep -Bo 1QShir-
ley Horan). Ko -Ko, • the Lord
High. Executioner, played by
Louis Murray, and Pooh -Bah,
Lord High +Everything Else
'(Marvin Benniger) succeed in
getting 'themselves into some
very real troulble with the Mi-
kado over the supposed execu-
tion of Nanki-Poo. The Noble
Lord, 'Fish -Tush 'was played by
Pat Ryan. The 'Gast also includ-
ed a chorus of school girls, No-
bles, lords, guards and coolies.
Directors of the Operetta were
the Ursuline Sisters. Musical
Director was Mr. E. C. Harley of
Mitchell.
A short Skit "A Dose of their
own medicine" was also staged.
The characters were Doctor
Tetch 'Mien Butters), Jasper
and Jake, two negroes (Frank
Malone and Jack K•linkhanlafier),
two patients, Heartache and
'Cough ,(Keith MdCarthy and;
Jimmie ,Maloney) and a Bandit,
(Billy Fits I(Artihur Murray).
