Extension Telephone
all wrapped up and ready
for the Christmas tree
This Christmas, why not give something different
yet strictly practical—the time and step.saving
convenience of an extension telephone? Imagine the
surprise of such an original gift on Christmas day and
the months of pleasure and comfort this service will give.
* Yes, the actual telephone itself, attractively
wrapped and ready to go under the Christmas tree,
can be ordered from any Bell Business Office.
* We will arrange to connect it at your convenience,
* You may pay for it now or we will bill you
month by month.
* A gift you can buy to suit your pocket book
(We suggest one year's service as an ideal gift.)
* You can pick up your gift -wrapped telephone at
our Business Office or we will be pleased to
deliver it for you. -
* Gift telephones are available at the standard rate of
$1,00 a month in the smaller centres and $1.25 in
the larger, plus the usual $2,00 installation charge.
* Inquire about coloured telephones. Now available
in Ivory, Beige, Green, and Red,
at an additional colour charge.

FOR GRANDMA'S BEDROOM FOR MOTHER'S KITCHEN
FOR HIS OR HER ROOM
FOR FATHER'S WORKSHOP
THE BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY OF CANADA
plans for farmers, was particu-treats, Mrs. Morley Cooper, Mrs.
larly interesting. Circumstances William 'Caldwell; sandwiches
vary greatly, also personalities
of people, so there is no set.
rule that farmers should follow
when it comes time to retire.
We believe the majority of
farmers, ,when'posstble, are wise
to remain on their farm, or et
least in the community where
they 'have dived. ;Older people
find 14 harder to snake new
friends. A sudden leisure after
years .of hard work snakes them
restless and unhappy and Short-
ens their lives. If there :are two
homes on the farm it is much
more satisfactory than two fam-
ilies living together.
'Because of high cost of living
few farmers ;can afford to retire
now and ;many do not want to
as they :do not like the way of
life and would miss old friends.
Often f •arm e r s through
sickness 'are forced to
sell 'anti (haven't the privilege of
remaining on their fazes -or
building 'a' home in the .commun-
ity. They often choose a near-
by village to be ,near a doctor
and stores. All agree it would
be ideal to be assured a steady
income when they are no longer
fit to farm productively, but
how to secure drhis is not so
simple. Many recall the depres-
sion years of the thirties wlhen
it took every dollar to pay taxes,
mortgage interest and barest
living expenses. No money could
be set :aside for retirement, but
we ;believe during the past 1.5
years young couples have had
;better times and should be sav-
ing for retirement.
We believe all farmers should
carry some life insurance. This
should be started early when
the premium is smaller. All
money available is needed for
farm machinery and stock. There
is none for annuities. Each farm
couple should try to save or in-
vest ho government bonds or in-
surance, so if farm property
greatly decreases in value, they
have other income

McKILLOP
S. IS. No. 2, McKillop Farm
Forum was held Monday evening
at 'the 'home of Mr. and Mrs. R.
E. McMillan. 'There was a good
attendance and a lively discus-
sion of the topic, 'Retire'ment
Plan for Farmers. The problem
of retirement for farmers is
not entirely financial, but that
is :a very important factor.
Looking ahead to future retire-
.ment is a part of :good farm
business planning. Discussions
made early in the farming car-
eer will be important in deter-
mining whether or -not the
farmer and ,his wife will he able
to retire and how they :will 'man-
age it.
The time to plan for retire-
ment is when you are young.
The forum felt that at the pre-
sent time 'the far -in is a pretty
good place to be. An hour of
euchre was enjoyed with ladies
winner most games, Mrs. Walter
