Fire Brigade to
Sponsor fund appeal
At a meeting of the (Seadorth
3'ire 'Brigade .on Sunday 'after-
noon its members unanimously
agreed to sponsor the appeal of
the Muscular Dystrophy (Associ-
ation for funds to carry on its
work. This is the second year
that the Brigade has sponsored
this project. Funds raised dor
this purpose are [divided for re-
search work and clinics in the
larger cities of Canada.
(The Brigade members, under
the direction of 'Chief 3. F.
'Scott, will carry ant its canvass
.of the -town on .'Tuesday and
Wednesday nights, Nov 29 and
30 respectively. Literature ex-
plaining the purpose of the
campaign is already in the
hands of every householder,
having been mailed last meek.

on .Saturday morning to every
house in town.

JOHN McMANN
Word was received here on
Thursday evening of last week
that Mr. John McMann, a former
resident of Timkersmith, had
passed away following car•onarY
thrombosis earlier in the day.
Mr. MCM.ann and his family
moved from (Seaforth to.(Ohrcago
30 years ago. Previous to that
he had resided just east of town
on the present Nixon darm.
His wife, the former Annie
Eckert, .predeceased him.
Surviving are one son Joseph
of Chicago, 4 daughters, Kath-
leen,
athleen, Mrs. Leslie Scott, (Chicago;
Helen, Mrs. Richard Tait, Dear-
born, Mich.; Emily, (Mrs. Rolht.
Hoyt, 'Chicago, and Florence,
(Mrs. L. Spizziri, Chicago, with
whom Mr. McMann had made
his home. Also, one sister, Mrs.
Lou .Strauser of Liman. The
funeral was held in Chicago on
Monday.
Messrs. Gerald Holland and
Matt Murray attended the fun-
eral.

jory Holmes by three of her girl
friends, Kathleen 'Boit, 'Shirley
Dick and (Shirley Quinn, was
held at the home of -her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Holmes on
Monday night; Nov. 14th where
many friends and neighbors
gathered to celebrate the occa-
sion. The evening was enjoyed by
playing bingo, after which they
made a bride's hook. The fol-

er. (How romantic the older ones
cried, how thrilling, how lucky
can one girl get, the younger
ones enviously sighed. It's no
news to me said another, Icould
tell by the stars in her eyes. Nor
me, piped a voice from the side-
lines, Doug said, "If you didn't
say yes he'd just die." We knew
from the moment he met you, he
had the marrying glance in his
eye. Ire was thinking how cute
you would look darning his soaks
and making him pie. So he
warned off all other' boy friends,

needs for all time. When he
finally popped the question and

Dear", we knew that his dears
had been groundless, and that's

Morris Native Killed'
At Saginaw
(Mrs. William Lane -of Dublin
is ,at Saginaw, Mich., to attend
the funeral of her brother, Thos.
(Phalan, who was killed in a car
accident on Saturday night
about 11 o'clock. Also attending
are the other (brothers and sist-
ers trent Ontario, James Phalen,
Blyth; Rev. William Phalen, of
Woodstock; Rev. Louis Phalen,
Leamington; Sister 'St. Leonard,
(St. Thomas. A niece and her
husband, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril
,Boyle of Auburn, also attended.
The accident occurred while
riding in a new 1956 car be-
longing to his son James, who is
hospitalized.
The late Mr. Phalen was born
in Morris twp. and was in his
61st year. He went to the
(States about 35 years ago. He
had been in the clothing (busi-
ness and more recently was as-
sociated with the words of the
Knights of 1Columlbus. Survivals;
are his wife, who was formerly
from •Cheboyagan, Mich., and
(three sons and two daughters.
The funeral took place on
Wed. morning in St. Mary's
(Church, (Saginaw, and (burial
was at /Saginaw.

TO COUNCILLORS
(Huron County Council was
told the final cost of the ad(di-
tion to the 'Huron (County Rome
was $469,9'7.6.4'8, with the build-
ing costing $3,0.69.48 over the
original estimate,
The final payment has rbeen
received from the province on
the construction of the new unit
and remodeling the older part.
The committee has advertised
for a superintendent, but the
applications have not been dealt
with as yet.
The new farm manager, pur-
chasing agent and record clerk

On November 22, .a rtafrkey
banquet monthly meeting and
card party was held by the dir-
ectors of the Mullett Federation
of: Agriculture in the Landes-
boro Community Hall. Most
games, Mrs. Keith Tyndall and
Elgin Nott; consolation, Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Pipe.
On Nov. 21, forty ladies of
the community took advantage
of the bus trip and conducted
tour of several (buildings in Tor.
onto and attended the Iceca-
pades. This trip was arranged
by, the Women's Institute of
Londesboro.
Mrs. W. R. Plant
Killed at Windsor
Mrs. Hazel V. Plant, 57, 011
Ottawa, was instantly killed on
!Saturday evening at Windsor,
when struck lby,a car on a city
street. The accident occurred
near the bonne of her son, Dr.
Stewart Plant, where ehe had ,
been staying for •a few weeks.
Police said she was tossed 109
feet Iby a ear driven by Thomas
J. Wherritt, 27,. of Windsor.
Mrs. Stewart Plant said she
was returning with her mother-
in-law from a shopping trip
when the •accident (happened..
She said Mrs. Plant was crossing
the road after dismounting from
a bus when she was struck by
the .car.
Mrs. Plant lived all her life
in ISeaforbh until she and her
(husband, the late W. S. Plant,
who was .C.N.R. Station Agent,
moved to .St. Marys about 15
years ago. When Mr. Plant re-
tired they went to Guelph where
he died two years ago. She was
married nearly 40 years ago.
Mrs. Plant Was •a daughter of
the late David .(Stewart of .Sea -
forth.
Surviving are a son, 'Dr.
Stewart Plant of Windsor, and
a daughter Edna, Mrs. Gordon
Dawson of 'Ottawa, with whom
she had lived since the 'death of
her husband. 'Also surviving are
three sisters: 'Erie, Mrs. Harold
Dunn of Boston; Jean, Mrs.
Arnold Allan of Toronto: and
Margaret, Mrs. E. C. McIntyre,
of San Juan, Puerto Rico. A
brother 'George and a sister Ed-
na, Mrs: Umbaclh, predeceased
her.
The funeral service was held
Tuesday at 1 p.m. from To-
well's funeral home in Guelph.
Interment was in Acton ceme-
tery.

ciety of Northside United Church
held their meeting on Tuesday
evening in the schoolroom. Mss.
Clarence Walden opened the
meeting with a poem entitled,
"Life's Tapestry." Mrs. James
M. Scott presided. Hymn 6.8,
"Thou -didst Leave 'Thy Throne"

Lemoning led in prayer. Reports

Scecapades in Maple Leaf Gar-
dens.

spent the weekend as guests of

London spent a few days the be-
ginning of last week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim
.Clarke. Mr. and Mrs. (Clarke re-
turned to London with them and
spent the weekend. On Friday
night they attended a shower
for a niece of Mrs. 'Clarke, Miss
