Dear Mr. Mayor: The souvenir booklet and the paper just came to me, describ- ing the Seaforth Old Boys' cele- bration, July 30 to August 3. I am so disappointed at not knowing the event was on, for I sure would have made every ef- fort to attend. I was born in Eg- mondville, December 6, 1878. My father was Murdoch MacEwen, who was married to Catherine Driskiel MacEwen, They were wed at Mitchell October 11, 1876, and we moved to Cleveland in the early 80's. My father often told me about working for the Jackson General Store at Eg- mondville, and about Wm. Van Egmond, the family of which I well remember, for I spent many vacations in Seaforth up to two years ago, when my wife and I became ill. We always enjoyed OUT visit to the Thome of my birth. I represented the Canadian Pa- cific Railway at Cleveland and Detroit for 25 years, when at the age of 66 I was retired on pen- sion. I was born a Canadian and retired a Canadian and am very proud to claim Canada as my birthplace. My wife was born in England. I have conducted Scotch games and Burns' concerts here for for- ty years, and just wound up with successful Highland games here before 6,000 or more people. I note my good friends (name just escapes me) who run the feed store across from the Mun- icipal Building, are not repres- ented by an ad; wonder if they are still in business. They are very fine people. It has been two or three years since I was over, the last time being the funeral of Barry Martin. Our health has prevented us getting out as we wish. I had a stroke two years ago, and had to give up my car. I note Detroit was well repre- sented from the city and adja- cent area. My dad would have been in his glory to have been at this big event, and as stated, LABOR DAY Week - End Specials RED ROSE COFFEE 1 lb SMOKED PICNIC HAMS lb BURNS SPORK 12 oz. My congratula- tions to you and your commit- tee for a grand event sand a great tribute to a grand toevn. if you want a good soccer club for an exhibition some time, I will arrange a game for just transportation. We have a fine Junior Bagpipe •Band that has been tutored and organized Eby the St. Andrew's Society of which I am an officer. They played at our games this year. We accept only boys under 17 years, and give them free train- ing. Several of the boys carried off prizes in the piping compe- tition. Pardon this rambling letter, but I get enthusiastic over any- thing Canadien,'and I like the pipes and highland games. I am a Toronto Fair fan, having up to last year attended close to 30 fairs. Many times I man- aged to get to the Seaforth Fair and always enjoyed it for a small fair. With kindest regards, I am, John J. MacEwen. WINTHROP The regular meeting of the W. A. and WMIS. will he held on Tuesday evening, Sept. 6, at 8 pen. in the church. Miss Lois Anne Somerville and Mrs. E. Toll will give reports from Al- ma •College, The 'C.G,LT. girls, are especially invited to attend. W.M.S. ladies please hand in white 'boxes at this meeting. The roll call, favorite psalm. Mr. Doug. MaKone, of Strat- ford, will be teacher at S.'S. No. 6, McKillop, when school opens next week. He succeeds Mr. Foster Fowler. Music teacher will be Ron Klink, of 'Corrie. Last Run On Diesel 'Engineer Chris Reinhart, of Stratford, retired on ,Saturday after 46 years of railway ser- vice. His last run was the Strat- ford to Goderich freight run, returning in the aftenoon. This has been a diesel locomotive run since March of this year and Mr. Reinhart became the first Stratford 'C.N.R. worker to make his last trip in a diesel engine.
