It. wants them all to engage Ont. aria Provincial Police to do what it considers an effective job. Goderidh had an C.P.P. force for local policing for some years and discarded it for suf, fieient reason's, and, considering Toronto's record of murder and theft and crime in general, this town is at least as well policed as Toronto is, even taking into ;account the difference in popu- lation. The G. & M. might edi- torialize upon conditions in its ;own bailiwick and let the (people ,of the small towns run their own affairs." For the information of the Signal -Star it can be stated that Provincial Police are not now !available to Goderieh or any town its size. All towns over 2,00.0 population received ,notice early dnc year that their pro- vineial police contracts are be- ing terminated at the end of 1955, as officers are not avail - 5831e for policing the bigger towns. Seaforth being just above the limit, a deputation was sent to Toronto by the town council to plead with the department to al- low the Provincials to remain ]sere, stating that the Provincial Police had given. Seaforth the best police service the town had ever had. Word was later receiv- ed by council that the regula- tions would be relaxed to allow Seaforth to retain the O.P.P. A contract has been let for an addition to Seaforth town hall to provide more suitable aceo'm- modation for the police officers, the foundation is being laid this week on this extension. Seaforth council has consider- ed the town fortunate to be able to keep the efficient service provided by the provincial offi- cers. AWARDS! AWARDS! AWARDS! AWARDS!
