stance, and it is forty years
since she last visited here.

ry Day will be celebrated at
Goderioh by the Royal Black
Order, when lodges will be pre-
sent from Port Huron, Detroit,
London, Chatham, etc.

Joseph Carpenter
Joseph Carpenter, 81, lifelong
resident of this community, died
suddenly at his home Saturday.
Until retiring in 1944 he had
farmed in this district. Always
a sports enthusiasts he was a
member of the Champion Foot-
ball Stars, of Dublin, 50 years
ago. Surviving besides his wife,
the former Teresa Devereaux,
are one daughter, Mrs. Fergus
Reynolds, Detroit; one son, Jo-
seph, on the staff of Chatham
Collegiate Institute; two sisters,
Mrs. David McConnell, Dublin;
Mrs. Katherine Devereaux, Chi-
cago; and four grandchildren,
On Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., Sol-
emn Requiem Mass was sung in
St. Patrick's Church by Rev. J.
ll, Ffouikes. Burial was in the
parish cemetery.

neighbors attended a post nuptial
reception in the Seaforth Com-
munity Centre on Friday night
honoring Mr. and Mrs. John J.
Krauskopf, recent newlyweds. An
address was read by Steve Mal-
oney and presentation of a purse
was made by Martin Maloney.
The guests of honor graciously
expressed their thanks. Music for
dancing was supplied by Harburn
orchestra. The sponsors and their

The United Church Vacation
Bible School closed last Satur-
day morning after a very suc-
cessful week with 80 children
enrolled and a very excellent
average attendance. The school
was under the direction of Rev.
T. J. Pitt.
Visitors over the weekend
were Mr. Floyd McAsh of Ham-
ilton, Mr. Geo. Coleman, Miss
Anne Ostrom, Miss Margaret
McClymont, Misses Marjorie
and Nancy Webster, all of Tor-
onto.

ids, Mich., spent the weekend
with his mother, Mrs. Lydia

and girls spent Saturday with
Mr. and Mrs. I. Foster in Ham-
ilton.
Mr. Robt. Thomson who was
assisting his son Mr. Bert Thom-
son had the misfortune on. Mon-
day .afternon to break the large
bone in 'his right arm. Mr.
Thomson was assisting his son
to prove the threshing machine
into the barn ,by cable when a
chain broke allowing the
tongue to fly quickly around
striking Mr. Thomson's arm.
Luckily the large machine mis-
sed hacking over his body. He
was removed to South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, where x-rays
wore taken and the arm set.

Thursday evening at the Red.
School house on the Kippen-
Seaforth Road when the section
and the congregation of St.
Andrew's United •Ohurch, Kip -
pen met to present her with a
miscellaneous shower. The event
was in charge of Mrs. Ernest
Ross, Mrs. Orville Cooper, Mrs.
Alec • Miller, Mrs. Jack Consitt
and Mrs. John 'Sinclair. A mu-
sical .program and contests were
enjoyed. Eleanor was then call-
ed to a prettily decorated chair
and Mrs. Alec Miller read an
address and Marlene Cooper and
Marilyn Ross carried in a pret-
tily decorated basket laden with
gifts. Alter opening the many
useful gifts, Eleanor Made a
fitting reply, A dainty luneh was
served.
Reception For Nerdy Weds
A large crowd of Kippen
friends •and Kent County rela-
tives met on 'Monday night at
Bayfield Pavillion to honor Mr.
and Mrs. Lenard Lovell, bridal
couple. Dancing was enjoyed
with music by Murdock's Or-
chestra, Later in the evening
Mr. and Mrs. Lovell were called
forward and Mr. Jim McGregor
read an address. Mr. Jack :Coop-
er Jr, presented the bride and
groom with a gift of money.
Mr. Lovell made a fitting reply.
