The treasurer gave her report
stating $16.83 had been receiv-
ed at the Easter and Affiliation
service. The mothers gathered
with the girls at this meeting and
quilted on the flower -garden
quilt. Recreation followed and a
lovely lunch was served. The
meeting closed with 'Taps'.
Recently mothers of the
young people gathered at Mrs..
E. Toll's home and quilted the
autograph quilt.
FORTY YEARS AGO

May 1916
Fire destroyed the livery barn
on Main Street recently vacated
by W. Bry.ne about 3.30 Tues-
day morning. At the height of
the fire a cat emerged -from the
blazing building, drenched but
unhurt. The building belonged
to A. D. Strong •of Galt. The
heat was so intense that all the
windows of the library across
the street were cracked.
Mr. H. Edge is preparing to
move his store from the Camp-
bell block to the premises vacat-
ed by Beattie Bros.
Mr. Thomas McKay is getting
the material to erect a new
house at Manley.
Zurich reports a building
boom, mostly residences. In
consequence of the demand for
building lots the old bowling
green has been disposed of and
a large modern building is now
in course of erection on the site.
George A. Powell of Toronto
who was lost on the Lusitania
was a former well known Brus-
sels business plan.
M'r, E. Robinson has sold his
farm at Zion to •a Toronto firm
for $20,000 and will move to the
Walker farm.

in their fourth year and one of
the largest of its kind in Ont-
ario, will show 100 choice Here-
ford calves at Hensall spring
show on Friday, May 27th. The
calves will be sold by public
auction following judging.
This projeeet is sponsored by
the girls and boys themselves.
They arrange financing in the
fall when the oalves are brought
from the West, care for them
over winter, and learn how to
lead and !groom their oalves at
meetings conducted by G. W.
Montgomery, Ag. Rep., and H.
