The meeting opened with the Opening Ode followed by the song "Stars of the Summer Night". The roll call was answered with •an ex- change •of handkerchiefs. Plans were completed for the bus trip to Greenfield Village, Detroit. A club picnic and an Anniversary of the Ladies' Club was discus- sed. Mrs. Bill Rogerson favored with an instrumental, "Sweet Bye and Bye". Mrs. Bill Pepper gave a humorous reading, and an Apple Contest by Mrs. Ervin Sillery. The meeting closed sing- ing "Oh! Susanna" and "The Homemakers' Prayer". A lovely lunch was served by the hostess and her committee helpers. The pallbearers were uncles, Wallace, Dick and Dana Watson and Les .Sims. In- terment was in Exeter cemetery. Passing of Russell Consitt The people of this district were shocked when they learned of the sudden passing. of Russell Consitt Thursday noon of a heart seizure. The late Mr. Con- sitt was born Feb. 28th, 1906, son of the late Thomas. Consitt and Janet Forsyth and spent his entire life in this district. On Nov. 10, 1931, he was united in marriage to Eileen Turner, wvi10 survives. He was a member of Ilillsgreen United Church un- til it united with St. Andrew's United Church, Kippen, and was a member of the board of managers of that church. ' He was active and willing it any district or church activities. A loving husband and father and kind neighbor, lie will be greatly missed. He was Past Master •of Varna L.O.L. 1035. Besides his sorrowing wife he leaves four sons, Thomas, William, John and Jimmie, and one daughter, Nancy Ann. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. R. McAllister and Mrs. Clarence Parke, both of Stanley twp. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from his late residence, Parr line, Stanley, conducted by Rev. N, McLeod, A ladies' quartette, Mrs. Wm. Kyle, Mr's. Jahn Hen- derson, Mrs. Bruce • McGregor, Mrs. Harold Jones, sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," The palI- bearers were Anson Coleman, Harvey Coleman, Ward Forrest, Itoy Collsitt, Ivan Forsyth and Bruce McClinchey. Flowerbear- ers were Herbert Stephenson, Wilmer Turner, Clarence Steph- enson, Geo. Stephenson, Floyd Turner, Ralph Turner, Ronald Coleman, Murvin Johnston, Ken- neth Parke and Elverson Kyle. Interment was in Bayfield cem- etery. Graveside rites were un- der auspices of Varna L.O.L. Friends attended the funeral from Marlette, Toronto, Niag- ara Falls, Lucknow and London. Mother's Day Service Mother's Day Service was held in St. Andrew's United Church here. The Sunday School children and teachers occupied the front pews. The service was in charge of Rev. Norman Mc- Leod, B.A„ B.D. The Rites of Baptism were administered to Douglas Keith McKay, son of i lir•. and Mrs. Kon McKay; and James Robert Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cooper Jr. Large baskets of Flowers were placed in the Church by , the Gridzak family in memory of their son Terry who passed away so suddenly during the week. Also by the Consitt fain- ily in memory of the late Rus- sel Consitt who also passed away suddenly during the week. Mr. and Mrs. James Young also placed flowers in the Church i11 memory of Mrs. Young's father, i the late Mr. McNichol of near Iiirkton, who passed away sud- denly during the week. The choir under the direction of Miss Jean Ivison rendered a Mother's Day anthem. Joan Sin- clair and Grant Jones sang a duet, 'Open up your Heart", ac- companied by Mrs. J. Sinclair at the piano. The Mother's Day story was told by Mrs. Robert Elgie Jr. The offering was tak- en by four Mothers, Mrs. 3. Mc- Lellan, Mrs. W. Bell, Mrs. Wil- mer Jones and Mrs, Norman Dickert. _ To Hold Anniversary Service The Y.P.U. of St. Andrew's United Church are holding their annual Spring Anniversary on Sunday next, May 15 at 11 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. The morning speaker will be Rev. N. J. Buch- anan B,A., B.D. of Gerrie. The evening guest speaker will be Rev. W. J. Rogers. of Hensall. Special music will be furnished by the choir and visiting artists. Mrs. Lloyd Bowerman of Listowel spent the weekend with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. Workman, Mr. Workman being very ill. Miss Ann Tate of .St. Marys visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Love. Mr. and Mrs. A. Parsons visit- ed on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. Carter of Mooresville. Mr. and Mrs. A. Gackstetter attended the Hodgson-Colling- wood nuptials in Hamilton on Saturday. Mr. Bob Love, who has com- pleted his term at Toronto Uni- versity, left for Oakville where he has accepted a position in the Engineering Department of the Ford Motor Co. Sympathy of this community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gridzak, Mr. and Mrs. James Young, and Mrs. R. Con- sitt and family in their recent sad bereavements. Quite a number from here at- tended the Temperance Con- clave in Goderich Presbyterian Church on Saturday and Sunday evenings at which service Rev. Crosley Hunter of Toronto was guest speaker. Miss Isabelle Caldwell re- turned to her home here on Sun- day following a recent opera- tion in St. Joseph's Hospital at London. Mr. and Mrs• Reid Torrance of Porter's Hill spent a day re- cently with the latter's father and sister, Mr. Henry Ivison and Miss Jean Ivison. Mr. Ross McKay of Hills - burgh visited recently with his sister and brother, Miss Mar- garet McKay and Mr. Oliver McKay. Mrs. Harold Finlay is con- fined to her room for a few days, Miss Mary Ellen Burdge re- turned to her home in Cobourg after spending a few weeks with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hey.Her father came up for her. Mr. and Mrs, Lennard Jeffer- ey and family of Goderich and Miss Sara Ducharme of Lon- don visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jefferey and sons. Mrs, Laura Rennie has moved her household effects to Exeter to her new home there. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Oeseh had a chimney fire at their home on Sunday. Mr. Solomon Bachler of Zur- ich was in charge of the service at the Amish Mennonite Church on Sunday morning, in the ab- sence of Mr. E, Gingerich. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones and sons of Kippen and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Deichert of Bronson Line North, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Roy McBride and John on Sunday. ARBOUR—McCOWAN Before a setting of white chrysanthemums, pink snapdrag- on and carnations in Knox Pres- byterian Church, Goderich on Saturday afternoon Susan Eliz- abeth McCowan was united in marriage to Mr. Lionel Ronald Arbour, of Goderich. The bride is the daughter of Mr. John Mc,r Cowan, R.R. 3, Seaforth, and the late Mrs. MeCowan, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Arbour, of. Goderich. Rev. R. G. MacMillan officiated. Mrs. Donald Rivers, the organist, played traditional wedding music and accompan- ied the soloist, Mrs. Gordon Kaitting, an aunt of the bride- groom. "The Lord's Prayer" and "P11 Walk Beside You" were sung by the soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was lovely in a floor -length gown of white nylon tulle and lace over bridal satin, The brocaded satin bodice had a sweetheart neckline out- lined in seed pearls. The full hooped skirt featured lace pan- els. Her pearl -trimmed lace headdress held in place a finger- tip veil of net and she carried a crescent bouquet of red roses, Mrs. Elgin Fowler, Goderich, a sister of the bride, was matron of honor and Miss Greta Arbour, also of Goderich, and a sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. Their identical dresses of dotted nylon over taffeta were made in bouffant style, the matron of honor wearing aqua and the bridesmaid pink. They wore matching headdresses and mit- tens and carried bouquets of pink roses and white chrysan- themums. Mr. Ronald McGee of Goderich wasgroomsman and Mr. Elgin Fowler of Goderich and Mr. John McConnell .of Varna, ushered the guests. For a reception held in the church parlor, the bride's aunt, Mrs. James F. ,Scott of Sea - forth received, wearing 'a beige and black ensemble and was as- sisted by the bridegroom's moth- er wearing a dressmaker suit of blush pink wool with navy ac- cessories and a white hat. For a wedding trip to Niagara Falls and the United States, the bride donned a velvet suit hi deep turquoise, white hat and black accessories. Pink roses formed her corsage. On their re- turn the couple will reside in Goderich. Guests were present from Clinton, Seaforth, Varna, Goderieh and Toronto. The bride was feted at several events prior to her marriage. A pantry shower was held in her honor at the home of Mrs. Elmer Towns- end, R.R. 3, .Seaforth, The staff of the Bell Telephone Company, Goderich, presented her with an electric clock at the hone of Miss Audrey Cranston .and in her honor, Miss Greta Arbour entertained at a miscellaneous shower. FORTY YEARS AGO More than 1800 lives were lost in the sinking of the Lusi- tania on Friday. Mrs. John Archibald and Mrs. John McNay left on Saturday to visit at their home at Hamil- ton and say goodbye to their brother who leaves shortly for the front. A presentation was trade by the choir of First Presbyterian Church to Miss Evelyn Scott who leaves shortly for North Dakota. Mr. Lammie, one of the Kip - pen mail carriers, got Mr. And- erson to take his route for him one day while he was away. Layton. Henry Dennis, McKillop, is preparing to build a brick house this summer. Hensall council has disposed of $5,000 worth of town hall debentures for $4700 covering 20 years and drawing 534 % in- terest, which is considered good considering the condition of the market. Hugh Hamilton, 2nd eon. of Tuckersnlith, has a colt with only three feet. A few years ago Mr, Fred McGregor had a colt with six feet. Monday morning was cattle morning at West End of Tuck- ersmith. Fletcher Townsend who takes in cattle for grazing, received 65 head before ten o'- clock. The farmers are glad to get a rest now as the stock are quite a tie, Mr. Wm.
