Miss Mabel Whiteman, N. G.
of Amber Rebekah Lodge 349,
presided at the meeting held on
Wednesday evening when guests
were present from Seaforth and
Clinton lodges. The degree team
under the leadership of Mrs.
Jessie Dougall, exemplified the
degree in a most creditable man-
ner, when two new members,
namely, Mrs. Joe Flynn and
Mrs, Thos. Baird were received
into the membership. Mrs, Anne
Henderson, D.D.P. of Seaforth'
presided during the degree. Mrs.
Dorothy Parker, P.N.G. on be-
half of the degree team present-
ed Mrs. Dougall with a gift, to
which she made a very fitting
reply. Mrs. Anne Henderson, D.
D.P., and Mrs. Habkirk, N.G. of
Seaforbh Lodge spoke briefly,
congratulating the Degree Team
on their work. An invitation was
received from Clinton Lodge to
attend their anniversary being
held on May 2nd. Delicious re-
freshments were served at the
close of the meeting.

The citizens of Seaforth are
divided into three distinct clas-
ses: those who keep chickens,
those who have gardens and
those who have neither. The an-
nual battles are now beginning.
Mr. George Smithers left on
Saturday for Toronto where he
has secured a good position,
Mr. Win. Davidson of Strat-
ford spent the 21st of this
month with his brother; Mr.
Alex. Davidson, the date being
the 60th anniversary of the day
they sailed together from Glas-
gow for this country.
Captain Barnard -Turner of
Toronto inspected the new Sal-
vation Army property here on
Tuesday.
Mrs. McQuaid has purchased
Wm. Ballantyne's house oppo-
site the Presbyterian Church
and is having a number of im-
provements made.
Miss Josie Tufford and bliss
Margaret Chittenden left on
Monday to visit Miss Eva Chit-
tenden in Toronto.
A McKillop pioneer, Mrs. Mo-
ses Hanna, passed away. She
and her late husband had come
to McKillop 55 years ago.
A serious accident happened
to Mr. Ed Davidson of McKil-
lop last week when the fingers
of his hand were lacerated by a
circular saw. Drs. Ross and
Burrows of Seaforth dressed
his wounds.
Mr. Geo. Chesney was at
Buffalo, on business this week.
Miss L, Weber of Dublin
spent the weekend with her
aunt and uncle, Mr. and Vlrs. J.
Weber in Seaforth.
Mr. Wnn. Matthews of Dublin
has gone to St. Marys.
Seeding operations are al-
most completed. The grain went
in in good shape and the pros-
pects are good for a satisfact-
ory crop.
Three cows are dead in the
herd of John Snaith, Goshen
line, near Zurich as the result
of treatment recently given
them to get rid of vermin. A
mixture of flour and paris green
was used.
Robert Smillie has sold his
fine 100 -acre farm two miles
north of Kippen to Thomas
Dickson of Seaforth for $8500
with possession right away. The
high prices of farm produce is
largely the cause for the ad-
vance in price -of farm ]ands.
The Cromarty congregation
have decided to hold a jubilee
to commemorate the 50t11 year
since the old stone church was
built.
Cliff Pollock of Bayfield has
engaged with Weston Bros. on
the Bayfield-Brucefield stage
and mail route.
. The 96th anniversary of Odd -
fellowship was observed by Fi-
delity Lodge when they marched
-to the Methodist Church where
Rev. A. W. Barker preached. A
duet was sung by Mrs. Philips
and Miss Gertrude Reid.
At the annual meeting of St.
Thomas Church J. M. Best and
H. Edge were elected wardens.
Reports were given by Rev. T.
11. Brown, Miss Verda Best, Mr.
Wm. Smith, Miss Jessie Case,
Mrs. Govenlock, Mrs.Colson,
Miss Margaret Edge, Mrs. H.
Speare.

Several of the S. S. No. 9,
Hay and Stanley pupils took
part hi the Musical Festival on
Friday in Exeter Public School,
namely: In duet parts, were
Misses Eleanor and Katherine
Erb; in solo parts were Nancy
Erb, Eleanor Erb and Mary
Margaret Oesch.
In the High School in the af-
t erno on some of the scholars
took part in unison chorus and:
a two-part chorus, taking- third
place. Teacher and music teach-
er are to be congratulated on
their excellent efforts and these -
children in their good work.
