Oppose Opening of
Roxboro School
The taxpayers of S. S. No, 13,
McKillop, have circulated a pe-
tition opposing the re -opening
of the school. Roxboro school
has been closed for the past 13
years, and at the annual meet-
ing at the end of the year, the
ratepayers voted to re -open it.
Considerable re n o v a t i'n g
would be necessary before the
school can be put into use again
and apparently it is this ex-
pense that has caused a number
of the ratepayers to change
their minds,
It was estimated at the meet-
ing that cost of hiring a teacher
and fixing up the 'school would
not be a great deal more than
present transportation costs.
The trustees had been given
permission to advertise for a
teacher, but could not call for
tenders for work on the school
until approval was received,
which it is understood has not
been forthcoming yet.
Those opposed to re -opening
the school claim that over 50
per cent of the ratepayers have
signed the following petition:
"We, the undersigned rate-
payers of S,.S. No. 13, McKillop
twp., do hereby declare that S.
S. No. 13, McKillop twp., re-
main closed and the pupils of
this school section be transport-
ed to the school of the ratepay-
er's choice."
It is stated that this petition
has been handed to Mr, J. H.
Kinkead, inspector for North
Huron, with instruction to take
the necessary steps to bring this
to the attention of the depart-
ment.
