Mrs. Edna Corbett of Exeter visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Archie MacGregor and Donald. Mrs. Amelia Schroeder left last week for St. Clair Shores, Mich., where she will visit rela- tives. Miss Shirley Flynn of London visited recently with her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn. Miss Marguerite McDonald of London was a weekend visitor with Mrs. Pearl Passmore. Mr. Wm. Alexander, who has been a patient in Victoria Hos- pital, London, was removed to South Huron Hospital, Exeter, by ambulance on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. McQueen were recent visitors with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edison Forrest. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker and family were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs Russell Keyes at Mitchell. Miss Isobel Alexander of Tor- onto visited this week with her mother, Mrs. Win. Alexander and sister, Miss Ruth Alexander. A large number of friends as- sembled in the Town Hall, Hen- sall, on Wednesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Jinks, who were recently mar- ried. The evening was spent in dancing to music by Desjar- dine's Orchestra. The bride and groom were presented willih a kitchen suite. Lunch was served. KIPPEN Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wren visited recently with their daug- hter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs: Tom Smith in London. Mr. and Mrs, Lorne Hay and family have moved to their fine farm east of the village which they recently purchased . from Mr. Carl McClinchey. Mr. and Mrs, Walter Fair- bairn visited recently with Mr. Fairbairn's sister, Mrs. Helen Dalrymple in Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickert and Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Dickert all of Clifford visited one evening last week with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dickert, Rev. Norman McLeod B.A.,' B.D., accompanied Rev. H. Dick- enson of Goderich and Rev. V. Buchanan of 'Gorrie to Five Oaks near Paris last week where ministers of Bruce Presbytery were holding a retreat. We are pleased to report Mrs. R. Dinsdale is somewhat improv- ed after her recent illness. Recent visitors with Rev. and Mrs. N. McLeod during the week were Mr. and Mrs. Gari R. Oman and daughter, Iva Jean of Neta - wake, Kansas, also Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Regan of 'Edmonton, Al- berta. Sympathy is extended Mrs. H. McMurtrie of Hensall and Mr. and Mrs. Alec McMurtrie, in the passing of Mr. Hugh McMurtrie, a former resident of Kippen. Miss Isabelle Caldwell of Lon- don spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs: H. Cad- well. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hillier of London visited recently with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alec McMurtrie, Mr. and Mrs. J Ferguson of near Hensall, and Master Roger. Ferguson of Thamesford were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs, A. Gackstetter. BLAKE Mr. and Mrs. Earl Deiehert of the Bronson Line, N. have pur- chased the lot and residence from Mr. Clausis near Zurich on Goshen Line. A number of the Goshen la- dies of WMS attended the birth- day party of the Hensall Auxil- iary on Friday night. Roads were .blocked in places on Sunday with the blizzard.: School was closed on Monday as all the children couldn't get out in time for school, although the Exeter and Clinton high School busses travelled through the drifts. Mrs. Harold Finlay and daug- hter Margaret attended the funeral of their cousin Mr. Hugh MoMitrtrie from the Hen- sall United Church on Friday of i ternoon. Mrs. Wm. Baechler and baby daughter returned from the S. Huron Hospital in Exeter, on Friday last. Quite 'a number attended the program given in the Evangeli- cal Church in Zurich on Monday evening, by Rev. Mr. Snell of Saskatoon, Sask., under the aus- pices of the British and Foreign Bible Society, with a sound film on the Bible and God's Scenery. FORTY YEARS AGO April, 1915 J. J. Irvine has leased his farm to John Boyd and he has let the homestead farm to Thos. Pryee and son. Of his 820 acres Mr. Irvine reserves 86 for his own use as well as the dwelling house. A large number attended a social gathering at the home of Mr. J. M. Eckert near Seaforth, After lunch a number of selec- tions were rendered by Misses Isabel Scott, Edith Hunt and Messrs. John Scott, Cliff Hunt and J. Kline. George Joynt, one of Hen- sal1's leading citizens, passed away. He had been a resident of Hensall for over 20 years and did an extensive business ship- ping ashes from various points in western Ontario. He also ran an evaporator and engaged in farming and dealt extensively in cattle. W. G. Broadfoot has sold his grass farm, formerly known as the Turner farm, to Dan Shana- han, Seaforth, the price being around $2700. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. F. Broadbridge are sorry to know of their illness at their home, on Market street. David Leitch, who spent the winter with his parents, at Bay- field, has returned to .Saskatch- ewan. Mr. and Mrs. T. Grieve cele- brated the 25th anniversary of their marriage at their home in Egmondville. Mr. James Hays Sr. has ar- rived from Acton to spend the summer with his daughter, Mrs. Ireland, in Egmondville. Mr. Thomas McAsh, esteemed veteran storekeeper of Varna is suffering from a bad attack of blood poisoning in his hand from a sliver in the thumb.
