Gumdrop Cake
1.1cup butter
1, cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
1 tsp. laking powder
3:. tsp. salt
1?lb.;gunldrops Ino black ones;
1 ib. seedless raisins
Cream butter well, blend in sugar
well. Beat in eggs. Add milk altern-
ately with dry ingredients, add flour-
ed fruit last.
Mock Mincemeat
4 albs, cracker crumbs
131 cups flour
1 cup molasses
1/3 cup lemon juice or vinegar
1 cup raisins, seeded and chopped
1,g cup butter
2 eggs. well beaten
Spices
Mix ingredients in order given,
adding spices to taste. This quantity
will make 2 pies.
Green Tomato Mincemeat
3 pts. chopped apples
3 pts. chopped, green tomatoes
4 cups brown sugar -
1-1.!3 caps vinegar

drain. Add remaining ingredients.

Prime Minister Mackenzie Hing
informed House of Commons that
he stands by principle of compulsory
selective national service in Canada,
as embodied in the national re-
sources mobilization act. But the
people of Canada had decided in the
last general election the prime min-
ister said, an election held in war-
time, against conscription for over-
seas service. Without consultation of
the people, the prime minister added
he did not intend to take the re-
sponsibility of supporting any policy
of conscription for overseas service.
Right Hon. Arthur Meighen ac-
cepts Conservative leadership and
declares for compulsory selective ser-
vice over the whole field of war, •'If
a strong ministry on a wider basis
can be formed," adds Senator Mei-
ghen in his statement of acceptance,
"party control- can no longer be
justified and should not be toler-
ated."
