mony at the home of the pride's
mother, who welcomed her guests
dressed in hyacinth blue crepe and
Dabonnet ]tat. The bridegroom's mo-
ther wore a pink sheer 011o1 dress
with pink felt hat. The diningrootn
was decorated with gladioli for the
occasion. For the wedding trip to
Gaspe the bride.donned a -blue wool
dress with matching accessories. On
their return Mr. and Mrs. Middleton
will reside in Toronto. Guests were
present from Goderich, Clinton. Sea -
forth. Atwood. Montreal -ani Toronto.

the bride. During the signing of the
register Miss Freida Barbour sang
"I Love You Truly." Aircraftman
Colin Charles Austerberry was best
man and Mr. Jack Duckworth. Gode-
rich. and Mr. James Wiggins, De-
troit. were ushers.
To Install Water Main—
At a joint meeting of the County
Home and Warden's committees of
the County Council head at Goderich
recently it was decided tv install a
water main and three hydrants to
serve the institution. The contract.
has been awarded to the Grant Con-
struction Co., of Toronto, which com-
pany laid the six-inch water main
from Clinton's municipal wells north
of the town to the new school. a dis-
tance of two miles. This plain passes
the County Home an No, 4 highway
and it is to be tapped by a 1500 -foot
four -inch main into the grounds to
serve the main buildings and barns.
Three fire hydrants are to be install-
ed. Installation of the new automatic
fire alarm system in the main build-
ing is
uild-ingis just about completed at a cost
of $1845. Besides sounding a fire
alarm at the Home this will automat-
ica1ly notify the Clinton fire de-
partment of a blaze.

Going To The Coast—
Group Captain P. D. -Robertson, A.
11., who has been O. C. of 01 Air
Navigation School. Port Albert. Is at
present on holidays and. it is under-
stood, will shortly be transferred to
a -post in British Columbia, The high-
ly esteemed Group Captain has had
indifferent health since coming to
Canada last October and is seeking a
milder climate. It is reported a suc-
cessor has already arrived from
England.
Receives Commission—
While enjoying a few days' leave
ut - his hone in tsborne. Sergeant
Pilot Harry Anderson received a '
telegram from the R. C. A.
Camp Borden. congratulating hire on
his high standing in the recent
rents and appointing him to .the
commission of Pilot Officer, As IU•.
Anderson did not enter the R. C. A. F.
until late November. 1440. this is an
excellent record. Pilot Officer Ander-
son left •muneiiately for the Eastern
seaboard.

Chief Engineer Succumbs—
Mr. James Hedges. of Toronto,
chief engineer for airport construc-
tion for the federal government, died
suddenly at Clinton on August 19111,

55 years of age and had been in
Clinton for several months,

Options Taken on Fat ms—
Ett,ghceers from the Dominion De-
partment of Transport have opened
up offices in a small dwelling on the
farm of the late W. R. Elliott. one
utile west of Centralia; where RUT -
eying operations are in progress in
connection with the new airport. A
request has been made to the Ste-
phen Township Council to close one
{ and a half miles of sideroad known
as the Davey sideroad. between con-
cession three and concession four.

Learns of Brother's Death—
Mrs. E. Wettdorf of C'liinton has
received word of the death of her
brother who was with the • Royal
Canadian Air Force at a western
training centre. The remains were
brought to Chesley. his former home.
for interment. Mr. and Mrs. Wen-
dorf attended the funeral last week.
Fire Destroys Barn
Near Wingham—
Fire which broke out about 1.10
o'clock Sunday afternoon, completely
destroyed the large bank barn on the
farm ewne,i by Miss Minnie Link-
later.`and occupied by David John-
son. on No. 4 highway. about three
utiles - north of Wingham. When the
blaze was first noticed by Mrs. John-
son it had gained such headway that
nothing could be saved of the barn
and adjoining implement shed. In
addition there was a valuable stal-
lion. a number of young pigs, four
cows, one hundred chickens, the
season's threshed grain, a quantity
of hay and all the farm implements.
The Wingham fire brigade was suns -
mooned. but by the time it reached
the scene the barn was doomed, and
attention was directed to the dwe11-
ing, which was saved through the
efforts of the firemen and a favor-
able -wind. The damage is . partly
covered by insurance.
Youths Receive Sentence—
Magistrate Ian McRae at Goderich
last week sentenced Max Glassco,
aged 19, and Ralph J. Delduca. same
age. to two years' imprisonment in
an Ontario Reformatory, one year
on a charge of attempting to escape
from Huron County jail and one year
each on a charge of car theft, the
terms to run consecutively. They
also were given terns of two to six
months on four charges of robbery
or attempted robbery, these to run
concurrently with the longer terms.
Ernest Rupert, aged 19, was senten-
ced to one year on the car theft
charge, and from two to six months
alt the robbery charges, to run con-
currently. Robert Enright, 16. was
given one year suspended sentence
for car theft, but will serve three
months in jail on the robbery
charges. Francis Arpentiguay. 19,
also was given suspended sentence
for car theft and four months in jail
for robbery. Both are members of
the Essex Scottish. All the youths
carne from Windsor. On July 31st
they stole a car at Hensall and went
on to commit robberies at Zurich,
Clinton, Blyth and Brussels. On Aug.
7th Glassco and Delduca unsuccess-
fully tried a jail break at Goderich.
Cleaning Out
Grain Separators—

threshing the grain separator is the
most difficult of all farm implements
to clean. dustom machines are rare-
ly cleaned out thoroughly and are
consequently responsible for many
new weed infestations. The seed
grower has to face the added danger
