A. very enjoyable meeting of the Seaforth Women's Institute was held at the Home of Mrs. John Old- field on June 11th. The president, Mrs, Gordan Papple conducted the business. The roll call, "Don'ts" for the sick room, brought an inter- esting response. A motion was made and carried that the Institute form a unit with various committees for more effective Red Cross work. Mrs. A. Crozier, Mrs. Cecil Oke and Miss Thelma Elgie were appointed to the finance group. The invitation extend- ed to the Institute to cater at the Clydesdale field day was accepted, all proceeds to be given to the Red Cross. It was moved by Mrs, Paitl Dolg and seconded by Mrs. Hugh Chesney that sandwiches and coffee be served on the 12th of July, proceeds for the War Victims' fund. Mrs. Leonard Strong, health con- vener, presided for the latter part of the meeting. A. very helpful paper on the motto, 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," was given by Miss Thelma Elgie. A demonstra- tion on bandaging and esteeming was given by Miss Anna Wallace. Mrs. Cecil Olte and Mrs. Victor Lee gave a report of the district an- nual meeting at Exeter on May 27th, Dr. Maul Brady gave a very inter- °sting talk on preventive medicine, stressing the importance of having the various toxoids for diphtheria, scarlet fever, whooping cough, etc., administered before an epidemic ap- pears en the community. The meeting closed with God Save the King after which lunch was served, LADY GOLFERS Mrs. Munn was the bridge Winner on Tuesday of this week and -Miss Mary Hays was golf winner on Wed- needay, Next Tuesday Mrs. Bechely will be in charge of bridge and on Wednes- day Miss Norma Jeffery will have charge of golf. Evans' house on James street, Reeves J. H. Scott, Seaforth, S. Whitmore, Tuckersmith., and N. R. Dorrance, McKillop, are attending the June session of Huron county council at Goderich this week. Mr, and Mrs, Harry Stewart, Eg- mondville, spent the week end in Kitchener and New Hamburg. Miss Laura Stewart, Toronto; and Miss Mary Stewart, Kitchener, were home on Friday for the 25th wedding anniversary of their parents; Mr. and Mrs. H. Stewart, Egmondville. Miss Jeau Smale has accepted a position in the office of the Heskey Flax Company. Mr. and Mrs, W. .T. Faulkner of Sarnia spent the week end in town. Mr. and Mrs. J. 0, Archibald and slaughter, of Des Montes, Iowa, spent the week end with his parents Mr, and Mrs, Win, R. Archibald. He at- tended a meeting of the Actuarial Society in Toronto. Mrs. J. H. Woods of Buffalo, Mrs. Merner of London, and Miss Flor- once Fowler of Bluevale visited at the Pinkney home ou Goderich St, Miss Shirley- Reid of Stratford was the week end guest of Miss Lois Dunlop. Mrs, Geo. Weir will return ou Sat- urday from Anderson, S.C., wbere she huts spent the winter with her daughter, Mrs. (Dr.) Lattimer. Mrs. W. S. Francis of Vancouver. - arrived last Friday and is visiting etre. .1. D. Hincllley for a couple of weeks, Mrs. Francis was raised here, being formerly Miss Alice 'ryerman. daughter of the- late Jos. Tyermau. and left here thirty years ago. Her daughter, Mrs, R. W. Bedwell is ex- pected here this week end to spend a few days. ANNIE WESTCOTT MARKS 80th BIRTHDAY Mrs. Annie -Westcott, a highly re, spected resident, observed her 80th birthday on Friday at ber home on High street. Although confined to bed with a severe cold she received a number of friends who called to convey congratulations and kind wishes, among them representatives from Edelwiess Rebekah Lodge and the Ladies' Orange Benevolent Assoc- iation, with bout of wbich organiza- tions Mrs. Westcott is connected. They presented her with a beautiful bouquet containing among other flowers an orange calla lily. Birthday greetings were also received from the Adult Bible Class iu Northside United Church of which site has been a faithful attendant. Mrs. Westcott has been a resident of Seaforth for 49 years and is interested in all good work. She is one of the most devoted Members of Northside United Church and W. M. S. Three sons are living, Nelson W. Westcott and T. Arnold Westcott, Seaforth, and Alva Westcott, Calgary.
