Mrs. W. F. McMillan spent a few
days last week in Stratford with her
son-in-law and daughter Mr, and
Mrs. Stanley Gray,
Mr. Robert Strong, Egmondville,
was removed to the hospital on Sat-
urday and has been quite ill with
pneumonia,
Pte. James Riley of the Kent
Regt., London, spent the week end
at his home. His mother, Mrs. Chas..
Riley of Walton, was also a guest.
Keep in mind the Junior Institute
dance the latter part of March. Pro-
ceeds for the Red Cross.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Box were in
Toronto during the week end and at-
tended the annual meeting of the
Toronto Mutual Life Insurance Co,,
of which Mr. Box is a director.
Sunday visitors at the home of
Mr, and Mrs. Alex Wallace were
Mrs. Thomas Calwill and sou Bill,
of Brucefleld, and Miss Helen Hous-
ton.
Mr. Aldie Eckert, R. C. A. F„ has
been transferred from Piston to
Camp Borden,
Mr. and Mrs. Fergus Bullard of

of the late William McKenzie at
Hensall on Saturday.
Miss Mayme Watson was removed
to Stratford hospital last week where
she underwent an appendicitis oper-
ation and is recovering nicely. Her
sister, Miss Jean Watson, R.N., was
recently appointed assistant instruc-
tor on the staff of the Stratford Gen-
eral hospital
Mrs. Thomas Wheatley is spending
this week in Stratford the guest of
the Rev. P. J. Robinson and Mrs.
Robinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy McMaine of Eg-
rnondville and Mr. and Mrs. Jos.
Petrie, of Donegal, were visitors at
the home of Rev. C. C. and Mrs.
Kaine on Sunday.

Herald saw it:
A number of 'hockey fans attended
the hockey match at Stratford on
Monday evening when the Seaforth
Beavers of which Mr. Harold Stade,
one of -our local boys, is the star goal
'tinder, nosed out the 'Waterloo .team
in the playoffs. The game was a tie
1-1 and it took '1S''/ tninutees of over-
time before the Seaforth team finally
,cored. The success of the Beavers is
partially due to ,Harold's 'brilliant
goal keeping and pepping up the ,herys
when they seem to �qet a Ibis 'weary.

Cy. Proctor and Len. Nichol played
with the Seaforth Beavers against she
Waterloo Siskins at Stratford Man -
day night. Seaforth won in overtime
2-1. Those who saw the game from
Wingltam said Cy. and Len played
well The referee was Cecil Mooney,
of Woodstock, a former AVineham
hockey player,
MANLEY
ide. Fergus Horan met with a
painful accident last Saturday while
loading hogs, by being thrown
against a door. Fortunately his in-
juries were not as serious as at first
feared, and he is- able to be around
again.
Messrs. Clem and Gerald McKay
of Galt spent Sunday with their par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McKay.
1Vord was received here on Satur-
day, March 8th, of the death of Mr.
Patrick Purcell of Stratford. He was
born here sixty-seven years ago and
spent his school days here until he
grew up to manhood. ,Forty-five years
ago he left here and resided In Strat-
ford ever since where he was em-
ployed by the MoLagan Furniture
Manufacturing Company. He had
been in failing health for some time.
He is survived by his wife and one
daughter and, one son and two bro-
thers, John of Seaforth and William
of Detroit and two sisters, Mrs. F.
Kenny, of Dublin and Mrs. Longe -
way of Guelph. The funeral took
place on Tuesday Yrom the inlnia-
culate Conception Church. The sym-
pathy of the community goes out to
the bereaved friends.
McKILLOP
The regular meeting of the "Busy
Beer Mission Band of Duff's Church,
McKillop, met at the hone of Mrs.
David Shannon on Saturday after-
noon, Mat'cit 8th, with Gladys;
Forbes presiding. The meeting open-
ed by singing hymn 390, followed
with prayer by Mabel Campbell The
scripture lesson Psalm 67 was taken
by Stewart Henderson. The minutes
of the last meeting were read by
the secretary Bill Henderson. Hymn
609 was sung and Bible stories were
told. The mission band song ,was
sung and the meeting closed by re-
peating the benediction in unison.
After the meeting a St. Patrick's soc-
ial was enjoyed and refreshments
served,

Mr. and Mrs. E. Taylor and family
of Stratford spent the week end with
Mr. and Mrs. R. Dinedale.
The sympathy of the comnWnity
is extended to Mrs. McKenzie and
fancily, of Hensall. formerly of Kip -
pen, in their recent bereavement. of
the late Mr. McKenzie, who passed
away in London Hospital, on Thurs-
day last.
Mr. and Mrs. J, Ferguson and sons

visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Wnt. Horsey on Sunday evening.
The W. A. of the United Church
are holding a pot luck supper, and a
croquinole patty, in the Sunday
School room on Wednesday evening,

BLAKE
A quilting bee of .the missionary
quilt was held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Lamont and Mr. and
Mrs. Elliott, Goshen Line, on Wed-
nesday evening. All the members of
the Blake Church were present and
a farewell for Mr. and Mrs. Robert
McBride was held. A presentation
and address was made to them, Miss
Beatrice Manson reading the ad-
dress and Mrs, C. Park and Mrs. T.
Dinsmore presented the gifts, a
magazine rack and a floor lamp. Mr,
and Mrs. McBride were completely
taken by surprise, but made a fitting
reply, thanking the members with
warm wishes for them all at Blake,
where they have spent the past 45
years.
