Council Meeting.—
The regular meeting of the village
council was held on Monday evening
at S p.m in the council chamber with
all members 'being present except
Ocnnicillor D. Robinson. Minutes of
the previous meeting read and adopt-
ed. T. Kyle reported re the 'water
trouble at •the rear of H. M. McMil-
lari s :store. also that there was water
in the ,furnace room at 'the 'hall, and
there was need of a new flag, Reeve
Shaddfck reported re the gifts for
soldiers. Cameron and Muir, that eve
(purchase the usual wreath from the
Legion. Carried. Correspondence read

Young People's Society of the Un -
ted Church commenced the fall meet-
ings Monday evening ,with a social
and interesting .program. Rev. R. A.
Brook .was chairman for :the evening
and opened the program by 0 Can-
ada and There Will Always 'Be An
England. Miss Gladys Luker played
a piano sok, entitled 'Tae :Old Rug-
ged Cross:' B11y •Camp:bell gave a
reading; Billy and Betty Miokle play-
ed a piano duet, 'Mabel Fairbairn fav-
ored with a Kilo, 'Carry On." Billy
Mickle gave a reading entitled, ''The
Fine."' Rev. R A, Brooke gave an il-

Mrs. James Priest—
The death occurred on Friday of
Mrs. James Priest in her SOth year at
her home here. The deceased lhad
been caring for her husband who has
been seriously'ill ,for several w=eeks
and appeared in usual good health, un-
til Friday morning when stricken
,with a heart attack and :succumbed
at noon. Formerly Mary Jane .Mar-
rison, a daughter of the late 'William
Morrison and Ann Price +Morrison,
the deceased was tborn in ,McKillop
near !Nanton. coming to Hensall
thirty-six years ago,
Surviving is her husband, 0115 Son
Morrison at home, one daughter ,Mrs.
Alpine McEwen '(Nellie) of Hensall
and one son ;lames in Port Huron ,one I
sister Mrs. Ellen 'Cranston of Van-
couver B.C. and one brother Mr.
Robt. 'Morrison of 'Woodstock. A pub-
lic funeral service was held from .the
late home on 'Monday afternoon con-
ducted by the Rector for St. Paul's
Anglican church Rev. M. A Hunt,

Mission Circle Meets—
The Mission Circle of the United
Church held their regular supper
meeting at the home of Miss Marg-
aret Tudor on Friday evening, with
23 present. Miss Barbara Shepherd
presided over the devotional. Miss
Margaret Tudor read the Scripture.
A letter of thanks was read from
Mish Goldie Cross who is attending
Alma College in St. Thomas. The
topic entitled "Freedom" was very
ably given by Miss Irene Douglas.
"Unto the Hills Around," and "When
I Survey the Wondrous Cross" were
sung. The November meeting will be
held at the home of Miss Marry

C. Murray of Toronto was the guest
speaker, delivering s very inspiring
address, Mrs. Hedden sang a beauti-
ful solo entitled "God's To -Morrow"
and the choir sang "0 For a Thous-
and Tongues To Sing," soloist Mrs,
Hedden.
Mr. Jack Dinsclale underwent an
operation for appendicitis in Scott
Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, last
week, and is very nruclr improved

Miss Bernice Manley and Miss
Mahan, who are in training in the
Kitchener Hospital, spent the week
end with their parents.
Sunday night's rain was the worst
of the season, making the ground too
soft for cutting buckwheat, The
other harvesting operations are com-
pleted but the farmers are faced
with the problem of saving the
threshed grain, as it is heating and
has to be turned continually. Some
has been spoiled so badly that it is
almost useless.
The potato crop is so badly dam-
aged even those who dug them early
can't save them. The only ones that

Mr. and Mrs, George Connell and
Harold attended the funeral on Sun-
day of Donald Sheardown in Gode-
rich, who died suddenly with a heart
attack• He was only 17 years old. He
is a cousin of Mrs. Connell. -

ston, Mr. Weekes will hold an auc-

sary of its opening nn Thanksgiving
