WINTHROP
The euchre was held Friday night
Ladies first, Mrs. Geo: Eaton; lone
hands. Mrs. Joseph Dolmage; men's
most games, Roy Dolmage; lone
hands, Guy Dorrance; After lunch a
few hours was spent in dancing. The
euchre and dance next week will do-
nate proceeds to the Red Cross.
Mrs. Foster Bennett and Billy have
been spending the week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Eaton.
Mr. Gillies was home over Easter
from Owen Sound.
The big tractor plow passed
through Winthrop on Wednesday af-
ternoon about 5 o'clock going to-
wards Seaforth and did not reach the
next corner before dark. A crew of
ten men worked during the afternoon
shovelling snow off the top of the
drifts and twenty men were called for
Wednesday night. From here to
town i
Grieve's bridge and to to v will be
the worst on this part of the road.
There has been no traffic over the
north road since Saturday. he plow
reached Aitcheson's on Sunday night
and had to turn back. Voters on
Tuesday found in many cases that
they could not even ride on horseback
to the polling places and had to walk.
Two teams and ten men taking a pa-
tient to Seaforth hospital on Tuesday
afternoon had a difficult trip and
had to change teams at Wilson Camp-
bell's after -about half of the seven
toile journey. They went through the
fields around Medd's to Roxboro and
in the second concession. The
horses were exhausted after the five-
hour trip from Winthrop.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Patrick to whom a son was born
at Seaforth hospital on Wednesday
morning.
The W. A. and W. M. S. will hold
their Easter Thankoffering meeting
on Wednesday, April 3, at the home
of Mrs. John Petbialt. Mrs. R. W.
Craw will be the speaker.

Native of Bayfield Dies -
Born in Reynold, 87 years ago, Mrs.
Julia N. Huff died Tuesday night in
her home at 412 Bruce street, Wind-
sor. She had lived in Windsor 00
years, She was a member of the
Church of the Ascension. of which
her father, James Barge, was one of
the builders. She is survived by her
daughters, Mrs. Fred Cummins and
Miss Ethel Huff, both of Windsor, and
Mrs. Alfred Nicholls, of Jackson.
Michigan. Services will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Thursday in the residence
at Windsor by the Rev. F. V. Varr.
Burial in Woodmere Cemetery, De-
troit.

The residence of Mr, Percy Sales
had a narrow escape from destruction
by the during oneof the recent bliz-
zards. While shoring at the barn Mr.
Sales smelt the smoke and discovered
the roof of the house on Bre. With the
assistance of his neighbors they got
the fire out but not before it had
made quite a hole in the roof,
