The weather was kind, the large crowd of representa- tive people front the various school sections were enthusiastic and in- terested, the ehi'bits of ,poultry, colts and calves tvere of the very best and 'puzzled the judges consid- erably to allocate fairly the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes, In the hall there was a fine and abundant display of hand- made articles, of cooking good to see, and flowers, fruit and vegetables of wonderful beauty and perfection and size, The penmanship and drawings were very largely contested and very good, and the arrangement of every- thingin the building was very at- tractively done. Great credit and praise is due to all the teachers in their splendid en- deavor to make the. .fair a success, The banners were fine, the costumes of the different groups were first class, the lining up and "march past" and finally the physical culture drills were all excellently performed and duly admired by the crowd of people, Miss Mountain's school, of Staffa, getting l.st prize this year for the niost creditable points throughout the whole prnceedure, and costumes and all. The others all did remark- ably well and to which to give the first, second and third prizes must have 'beeu difficult for the judges. The Wonderful precision and promptness of the different groups in obeying the command of their especial teach- er strongly evidenced the daily and • hourly influence each teacher Ills over the little flock entrusted to her care, and who imitate attd mettle her in all she does. This trust shon',d inspire every teacher to daily live her very hest. The profession of school teachers' and their influence on the youth of unr land is a mighty factor in its national life in the future. It is one of the noble professions. meeting. Death of Peter Barrows. --,After an illness of overthree months, Mr, Peter Barrows passed away early Thursday morning, September 24th, at the age of eighty-six years and 8 months, Born, in Cambridgeshire, England, the late Mr. Barrows came to this country when seventeen years o'f age, shortiy afterwards going to California, where he lived for sixteen years. Upon his return he took up farming on the twelfth concession of McKillop and has ever since been a resident of this comutunity. He was unmarried. Two ;brothers and a sis- ter survive, George Barrows, Lauder, Mian.; Christopher, of McKillop; and Mrs, Dallance, St. Marys. The fun- eral was held nn Friday afternoon from the residence of IMr. John Mar- shall, Rev. Dr. Brown conducting the service and interment was made in Brnss,eis cemetery, The pallbear- ers were Messrs. Geo.
