Parish, of Winona, Minnesota, U,S.A, who is a son of Rev. "John"'Parislt, formerly of Mc- Killop, was sent by his congrega- tion to the Holy Land this summer 'for his vacation. He returned by way of Ireland and while at Armagh, he wrote the following letter to his grandmother, Mrs. Barwick, of. Win- throp, whose maiden name was Henrietta Shannon, born in Armagh in 1534; Jury's Hotel, Dublin, Ireland, August 27, 1925. Dear Grandmother:—I was in Bel- fast, so thought I would come over and see Armagh and Kealy. Armagh is about 30 and Keady about 40 miles from Belfast. I thought it my duty to find out all I could about you when you were a "wee" girl. The whole day was quite a pleasure' to me indeed. People spoke so like you and our people in Ontario that I felt very much at home. It seem- ed. like I was meeting uncles and cousins all day tong, However, I did not find any person who had a word to say against you or your family. There did not seem to be ,any record, I went out to the Tu,nple School near the Presbyter- ian church attd 'tad quite a visit there.. It 15 a quaint old spot, but as I remember, Mother told me that your Father taught school there. I got the keys and went in and looked about. It is a very interesting old spot. Then I went to the church and looked about. Perhaps you would ,remember thein speaking in the old`' days of Simpsons, Dunlaps, Shannons or MfeBrides. McBride, who is about'90 years old, was born here but was in London so I did not See ;him, Armagh is a pretty place. It has a good Presbyterian church and two cathedrals --one Protestant and one Roman Catholic. Both are .quite pretty, though the R. C. is a little prettier. The Protestant is old and as most interesting history associat- ed with it. Armagh is 'beautifully ocated. Keady also is quite a neat place on the outside .surrounded led bY hills. I a t is one of the Pr cttiest spots inland you could. find, in Ireland. Out at the Temple Presbyterian church there is a most charming spot as it is all about. The people told me that they thought Rev. Henry Wil- liam Carson, DSD., was the minister at Temple church when you lived here. There is a lot of natural beauty here. Thefields of oats and wheat are, small and pretty neat. •Many people are using the sticle and scythe and reaper. There seems to be a'bund'ance of green grass. There are many little -stacks about. Hay is $25.00 a ton. I do not know why it should cost so much. The flax is pretty well pulled. Armagh and Keady both do ,considerable in rais- ing flax and making linen. There are many orchards and farther east there are Many acres of strawberries around Portadown (15 miles east). The hedges._ are everywhere; first they were stone, then they became covered with dirt and bushes tintit, GOOD BUYING PURITY FLOUR $4.35 NORTH STAR FLOUR $4.25 SAI/'' Per cwt, 60c MEN'S.IIRUS CALF SHOES $3,75 WOMEN'S HIGH SHOES S $2.75 7 WOMEN'S COTTON HOSE 20c WOMEN'S .SILK .AND WOOL HOSE 75c CHRLSTIESS FANCY BISCUITS Per ib. 2$c CHRISTIE'S SODAS Per 16: 15c ICING SUGAR 3 lb, for 25c SCHNEIDER PURE LARD 19c It pays to buy in Egntoi, dville, W. Broderick Electrical Supplies the stone is almost, entirely hidden The 'hedges of stone and otherwise are covered with brach trimmed and pretty kept small. Wllins make a good hedge here and in March and April they are beautiful with yellow flowers. The Black Thorn 'hedge is plentiful and in the spring they are abundant with white flowers. Many hedges of Box Wood are about, I was greatly attracted- by the trees, mostly small 'but neat, in the Temple Cemetery.. They are Irish Yew, -Box Wood, Larch, Scotch Pine and Cedar, The cemetery is grown deep with grass and is very, very rough, but the outer appearance is good. I did not tell you that Ready is like all other places about, mostly built of stone or concrete, mostly rather dark, but some are whitewashed. There are many places without any floors except the earth, and many of concrete, stone, etc„ .and none of wood. The town seems to be made up mostly of very poor people. Last night I was in a typical home. They were sure jolly, 'but poor. They had almost nothing. Of course, there are some better=to-do, no doubt, but I think most of the people are quite poor. I• stayed at a little place called the Armstrong Hotel, It was very nice Nevertheless', ' 1 think this has i s one of the most harmling inland places for scenery I know anywhere, 1 don't wonder any at such a .beau- tiful place, being the hone of our dear, good 'Grandmother. I start for home next week, Sept. 2nd, on 'Majestic. I cannot visit On- tario this time. I have visited Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Greece (Constanti- nople and Athens) Jerusalem and Damascus, 'Cyprus, Malta, Palnlos, Naples, Italy, France, part of Eng- land, .Killarney, Cork, Blarney and kissed the Blarney stone, -Belfast, Giant's Causeway and Dublin.
