Two well known yotutg men of
this district appeared here before
Magistrate Reid last week on a
charge of disorderly conduct. One
was fined $25.00 and casts, and the
other $10,00 and costs. It seems
that the two young men met in
Clinton during the old boys' reunion
where some trouble arose between
them, and they agreed to meet in
Kippen and settle their differences
by a fistic encounter. Great prepara-
tions were made by the two contest-
ants, and a laige crowd assembled at
Kippen at 9 o'ofock on Saturday
night, Aug. lith, to witness the battle.
Afer a good deal of talk of who
should hit first, the gladiators start-
ed, and 'be'twee} fighting and quarrel-
ling, put in an hour of great enter-
tainment to the crowd. The battle
ended in a draw. Magistrate Reid,
in passing sentence, said that if the
two young men had just happened
to meet and got into a row, he
wouldn't have thought so much of it,
but when the whole thing was plan-
ned and staged the way it was,
it was too gross a piece of disorderly
e,grtaduct. s tri` `fgtren.ot to notice.

Interesting Announcement.
Word comes front Montreal that
that great family and farm paper,
the Family Herald and Weekly Star
has been enabled to reduce its sub-
scription !price to One Dollar a year.
This certainly will be interesting
news in every Canadian home where
:the Family 'Herald is known and to
many who will 'avail themselves* of
the 'offer. At Two Dollars a year the
Family Herald and Weekly Star was
generally admitted 'to be good value,
in fact big value, but when reduced ad -
One Dollar a. year it ,will certainly be
the marvel of 'the newspaper world.
Canada is proud .of that great weekly,
and has every •reason to 'be so, as it
has no superior and 'few equals in
the world today. The.publishers an.
nounce that notwithstanding the
change in price every feature will not
only 'be maintained but improvementswill follow. The publishers are fort-
unate in being in a financial position
to do :this, and Canadian homes will
have the advantage. When the new
rate is made known it certainly will
'bring a rush of subscribers to the
Family ''Herald. One Dollar is a small
amount for such a great paper.
