Chap- man, 2nd concession, Hay 'township, on the occasion of their silver wed- ding anniversary. About 75 guests assembled to a delightful dinner, af- ter which there was a short pro- granune presided over by Rev, A. Sinclair, of Remel • Short speeches were made by Messrs, Wm, 'Westa- way, of Hamilton, E. Ronnie, D. A. Camelot], A. Sinclair and NH-, and Mrs. Chapman, Sam Ronnie sang a delightful solo and well rendered in- steumentals were given by Miss Johns, Lon Mackay, Ferris Cantelon and Sant RennieMr, and Mrs. Chap- man were the recipients of a beauti- ful silver set front their neighbors, and the best wishes of the entire community were extended for their continued health and prosperity. The young men of the Boundary Baseball team donated the sum of $25.00 to Chiselhuret United church. This most generous gilt is greatly appreciated by the congregation. A very interesting wedding took place at the parsonage on Saturday afternoou, June 27th, when Mrs. Mamie M, Horton, of Hensall, was united in marriage to 7lr. Christopher Either, of Zurich, by Rev. Arthur Sinclair. He was .well and favorably known in this district. Quite a number from here attended the garden party at Brucefield Tues- day evening last. The postmaster here has .been granted Thursday half -holiday to come into effect on July 9th and con- tinued 'throughout the summer. Therefore both stores will be closed Thursday afternoons. Ortwein, over the week -end, The Death of Dr. Peck. -When the news reached .Hensall Sunday that Dr. Peck had died in London that morning at St. Joseph's hos- pital, a shadow of 'gloom was cast upon the whole community. Dr. Peck became suddenly ill about eight days ago and went to London for a consultation with other doctors which was followed byimmediate an t m e operation for acute appendicitis. Al- though in a critical condition, 'hope was entertained for his recovery, but he was unable to rally sufficiently and passed away Sunday morning. The doctor was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Peck, now residents of Hensall, and was born on the family homestead, Ba+blyon line, Stanley township, thirty-seven s p, ty seven years ago, and received his earlier 'education at the little school house near his home. After passing the common school he went to Seaforth to at- tend the collegiate. After a brilliant course, he entered McGill Univer- sity, Montreal, and studied medi- cine, and graduated there some twelve years ago. After spending two years in aMontreal hospital as a house surgeon he came to Hensall and started to practise here, where his .success was considered remark- able in the joint fields of medicine and surgery. Thedoctor had a very pleasing personality and was loved and respected by the whole com- munity. He..was a consistent mem- ber of the 'Methodist church and al- ways took a great interest in any- thing pertaining to the We of the vil- lage, and keenly .enjoyed sports of all kinds, Besides his sorrowing widow and two small 'children he leaves ' his father and mother at Mensal! and one brother Albert on the homestead in Stanley to 'mourn his loss. The funeral, which.,was private, took place from his late residence/ on King street on 'Tues'day afternoon and was in charge of the Zurich Masonic Lodge of Hensall, of which the'de- ceased was past master. Interment was made at Bayfield cemetery. Out of respect to the doctor all places of ibasiness in town were closed front 1:30 to 2:30, The doctor's 1place. in the lives of this 'community will be (hard 'to fill. A most enjoyable picnic was held -nn -Monday, June 29th, at Bannock- burn, when 'he teacher, pupils and a number from school section No. 10. Stanley, were present. Swimming and sports were the order of the ,lay. Prizes were given by the teach- er to the pupils obtaimn'g the great- est number of points A bountiful lunch was served on the banks of the river. A pleasant feature of the ucuic was an address and presenta- tion of a signet ring to the teacher, Mr. John McIntosh, who is leaving the school to resume his studies, The presentation of the ring was made by Roland Ketchen and the ad- dress read by Meh'in Snyder, signed on behalf of the school. The soft ball game between Hib- bert school S.S. No. 7, and Tucker - smith S. S. No. 10 was won by Hib- bert. The soft 'ball game between Chiselhurst girls and Hensall girls was won easily by the Chiselhurst girls. The baseball game played after supper between d f en the boundary Hensall, was won by Boundary,and the score being 9-7. Ferris Cantelon pitched for Hensall and Bert Hor- ton pitched for the Boundary. Both boys pitched good 'ball and each re- ceived good support in the field, Everybody that attended the picnic had a real good time. Mr. and Mfrs. Wm. Pybus at- tended the SOtl anniversary services at ElimvilIe United church on Sun- day, The Boundary Baseball Club gave $2.00 to the Chiselhurst United church which was very thankfully re- ceived. ELIMVILLE, 'The fiftieth anniversary of Elim- ville 'ciittrch was 'observed on Sunday and Monday, when Rev, Mr, Cooper, superannuated minister of London, oldest minister to have had charge of the church, preached. So great was the crowd, an overflow 'service was held in the Sunday school morning and evening. At night, Rev. Geo. Jewett, at former 'pastor, preached. President J A, McLaren gen- erously donated 10 pounds of coffee for the refreshments, No wonder the coffee was good. Treasurer John Robertson says be remembers the time harry :McCurdy was the champion base 'ball player of 'Goderich, John was in his short •pants then. Everybody was more than pleased to see Mrs. R. C. King out again, af- ter her severe siege of illness. It would be a lonesome gathering of Huronites without Mrs. King. John Moon and I-Iarold Timmins, two budding politicians and probably future legislators, did good work on: the committees. Mrs. J. Aitcheson, a former Blue- valeite, was a visitor and an interest- ed spectator. ' <. Secretary Ffoody was called away on important .t8isiness• during the. af- ternoon, but gdt back in time for lunch, which he enjoyed very much.
