At the last meeting of W:ingh'am
council the 'matter of autos parked
around town with young couples in
' and light's out for the greater part of
the night was discussed. The mem-
bers directed the chief and night
watchman to arrest any ans.' 'all own-
ers of such cars, in an effort to put a
stop to an alarming situation. 'Resid-
ents from all parts of town have cone -
plainest of autos stopped near their

is the intention of 'the council to see
that arrests are made and not 'left

rb Reimbursing Home Bank Losers.
(Goderich Signal.)
The House of Commons has passed
a resolution authorizing the payment
of $5,450,000 to Home Bank deposit-
ors. This grant, we are told,
amours to approximately 35 per
cent. ofthe depositors' claims. The
o tt
Signal has already expressed its
opinion of such a grant and has seen
no reason to change it. This vote
means that $5,450,000 'is taken out of
the pockets of 'tire people of Canada
n taut clad
generally and given to a car class
—those •who had money on deposit in
the Home Bank. Li our view- it
would be quite as justifiable to take
'the people's money to;om'pensate
those who lose in betting on the
races. Though Mr. Robb, the acting
Iviinister'of Finance, says it is not
to be 'considered a precedent, it will
be•so 'considered, and in years to
come all kind of aim for con. en-
s claims t
P
satfon ' ill bemade uman theGov-
ernment and 'buttressed by the action
'of 'Par?lia:ment making this grant.
The resoiubion was passed by a vote
of 100 to 20, and it was not a party
question at all; but, the Government
will haiwe to ,bear the brunt of the
,criticism front those 'taxpayers whose
money is being taken' to placate' some
of the losers from the Hosie Bank
crash.
