Well, here we are, nicely entered foto site leafy' month of June -the sxsoutb. in which the bride, !the June. bride, abounds numerously in all her gavel, sweetness. Of course, in thie monogamic country, there must • -'fie an equal number of bridegroonts, std, they have a right to mentioned, 4'tut they are mere men and men's :rnglnt have taken second place to esoei fn's t•iglets which have been so :persistently and so noisily advocated itis- our 'fair sisterhood. Nor have -*hey advocated in vain for not only ?rave they secured the right to vote, 'int they have sueeeded in gaining admission to positions and places, which once were thought sacred to ,avan, from the.magistrate's .bench to ,a seat in the barber shop. But to return to our subject, This -month sees the culmination of many :courtships, the goat to which many couples, looked fortdard with ardent joy as they passed unnlmbered hours together in unalloyed 'happiness. It is interesting to trace ka court-, ;ship 'front its beginning to the scene .at the hynteuial altar. Not that courtship' neeessarily ends when the sctiptial knot is tied, There have' been seas herons instances of married life sit which all that rendered the hours 'before marriage so delightful, have continued till death dissolved the blissful tie. There comes a time in a young man's life when, of all his young eady'friends, one •particularly appeals lo him. A similarity of mind or something not to ibe defined, first Axes his attention. Her form, her ifeatures, her •sweatuess of disposition, and her good sense nttark her out eo him as the one specimen of tvoanankind with whom he would :eater into the closest, the most 'en - /caring and the most enduring of earthly relationships, and so it is tot hong 'before he says to her in effect: - I've given my heart to you, Oh, do give yours to me! We'll lock them tip together, Ansi throw away the key With charming coyness she coin aliies with his request, and the season ins, bliss begins, g The conduct of a youmo couple cowards each other during the ;period of courtship should be mark- ed by the utmost frankness and ab- sence of affectation. But alas! we fear that this is often not the case. With their best attire which they ;ton when they are about to see each other, they put on their best manners and lay aside their natural manners which they practice in the aerdiniary affairs of life. Too =often • they 'practice a good deal of simula- tion and dis-simultrtion and make every endeavor to please and to -.vin; and it is not until after mar- riage that they throw off the mask and beome truly acquainted. We believe, however, that most -dung couples launch out nn the sea cif matrimony hoping for, and con- •Sdently expecting, a happy and pros- serous voyage. Too great a dispar- ery in physical size is not well in married couples. How strange it `<.ioke to see a woman of Amazonian oroportions going about with a mere midget of a man, or a man tall as a "on of 1nak, having for a wife a pocket edition of e woman. Listen to the following wail of a poor man whose wife towers ear above :aim in space. Of •ttedded bliss bards sing amiss I cannot make a song of it; lror,t am small, my wife is tall, .and that', the ehort and long of it. When we debate it is my fate 'To always have the wrong of it;. For I am small and she is '.tall, And that's the short and long of it. She give:, to ice the weakest tea, And takes the •whose Souchong of it; For I am small and she is tall. And that's the short and long of it. _Against my life she'll take a knife Or 'fork, and dart the prong of it, For she is 'tali, and I am small. And that's the short and Iong •of it. Much more anight be said on this interesting subject but we heave al- teacly taken up too much space. We doff our hat to the June bride. May her brightest dreams become blessed realities. We wish much joy to all the young people entering into the marriage state -which has been call- ed, "That sweet comingling of hearts, Where changed as chemic compounds are Each with their own existence parts To find another happier far." With a 'quotation from Th'omson's. Seasons, and another from Milton's Paradise Lost, we will' close. 'O happy they! the happiest of their kind; 'Whom gentle stars unite, and in one fate Their 'hearts, their 'fortunes, and 'their beings blend, 'Tisnot the coarser 'tie of human laws Unnatural oft, and foreign to the mind, That binds their peace; but 'harmony itself, Attuning all their passions into love." "Hail wedded love, mysterious law, true 'course Of human 'offspring, sole •propriety Iax •pa edisc of all things common else, , By thee adulterous lust was drivn from men • Among 'the 'bestial herds' to range; by hh ec Pounded In reason, 'loyal, just, and pure Relations dear, and all the charities Of father, son, and brother first Were k,own."
