ing, Dec. 27th, for the final meeting
of the year, and extended the colt
lector's roll till the first meeting of
the new council in January. Follow-
ing the meeting, Reeve Geiger invited
thecouncil and the different town
officials to an oyster supper in Mr.
Jackson's restaurant, which was en-
joyed by all.
Nomination Meeting.—A nomina-
tion meeting was held in the town
hall on Dec. 29th for the purpose of
nominating a Reeve, 4 councillors,3
trustees, and a member for the
Hydro board. The nominations were
for Reeve—Owen Geiger, Robt. Hig-
gins and Alex. Smith. For Council—
Thomas Hudson, Robt. McArthur,
Chris Campbell, Wm. Phaff, Fred
Manns, Jas. Priest, Alex. Smith and
George Petty. For School Trustees.
-Thos. Welsh, Harry Soldan and
Ed. Lindenfield, who were declared
electel by acclamation. For the
Hydro board—George C. Petty and
Chas. Moore, After the nomination
was over, Mr. Alex. Murdock was
asked to take the chair for the meet-
ing, and three candidates for the
reeveship spoke. After .Mr. Case, the
secretary -treasurer; of the trustee
board, nad t_..en the state.,,eni of the
school finances, Mr. Geiger, r, the
reeve, was e.al:ed on to address tile
meeting and did so in his usual
breezy 5 y.e, and was followed by
Mr. Higgins, who gave a sp.endi l

The skating rink under the man-
agement of Mr. George Hudson, is in
full swing, and is being' well patron-
ized by our young people.

As we go to press we learn of the
death of Mr. Wm. Campbell at his
home here. Mr. Campbell has been
a sufferer with. Bright's disease for
some -time and his death was not un-
expected.
Mr. Good, Dungannon, was visit-
ing friends in town this week.
The entertainment -given by the
Presbyterian Sunday school on Tues-
day evening was a gerat success.
The hall wascrowded•to the doors,
and there was an excellent pro-
gramme. Mr. Stanley Bean gave two
splendid selectionson the accordian,
and was much' appreciated. The play

The Y. P. S. held a' meeting in the
basement of the Presbyerian church
on Friday evening. There was not a.
very good attendance but those who
were there enjoyed the geography
match; it caused a little fun for a
while. It was planned for the next
.meeting on January 9th that there
would be a debate, "Resolved that
men spend more money on Measures
than do tvonien." There will be a,
fee of 15 cents for non-members.
Members are asked to bring lunch.

Mrs. Thos. Travis died in 'Brussels
after a long illness at the home of
her sisters, the Misses Holmes, aged
67 years. After a service by Rev. Mr
Lewin, the remains were taken to
Flushing, Mich., for interment: De-
ceased was born • in Hibbert town-
ship. Her husband died 10 years
,ago.

The Graham House has been sold
by Mr. J Dorsey to Mr, D. Craw-
ford! of Dublin, who has taken pos-
session. Mr. Dorsey is moving to
Stratford where he will conduct the
Empire Hotel.
Mr. N, W. Trcwartha has pur-
chased the old New Era building
from Mr. Hall and will use it in his
business,

Mrs, Alex. Ross, Sr., who has
been spending the last few weeks
with Mr, and Mrs, Hugh ,Gilmour, of
Stanley, returned to her home in 1

months, returned last week.

been visiting friends in Toronto

The Chrismas tree entertainment
which was held on Dec. 22nd was a
great success. The schoolroomwas
filled to its utmost capacity. The
committee who had charge of the
programmeis deserving of much
credit. The children were certainly
well trained. The offering which was
given for the Lesson Helps and the
papers for the Sunday school,)
