A social evening under the auspices
of the Y.P.S:C.E, of the Egrnondville
church on Monday evening of this
week, was lunch enjoyed. The meet-
ing opened with devotimtal exercises
and Scripture reading, being 119th.
Psalm, after which Rev. Dir. 'Mc-
Donald 'led in prayer. Rev. Mr, Mo -
Donald occupied the chair in. his
usual pleasing manner, A debate was
the first number on the programme,
the topic being "That Gossip is a
Greater Source of Evil than Wats"
The affirmative wias upheld by Miss
Ethel C•ooks.and Miss Jean Lowery.
The negative by Mr. Gordon Car-
nochan and Mr. Edwin Chesney, the
negative winning by 3 points. There
was then a contest, the company ar-
ranging in groups, Group A winning.
There was also a bird contest, Group
5 winning, Mr. Anderson Scott rend-
ered a solo; accompanied by Mr. Earl
VanEgmand and Mrs. W. D. 'Mc-
Lean, a reading, Both of these sel-
ections were much enjoyed. The
judges for the contest then announeed
winning group 5 and presented the
prizes of a box of candy, to each, an
apples were also passed around.:Min-
utes of last meeting were read and
adopted. Meeting closed with C.E.
benediction.
WINTHROP.
Sacrament of the Lord's Supper
was observed in Cavan church last
Sabbath, with a good attendance.
Seven new members were added to
the roll, Mrs. W. C, Bennett by certi-
ficate being a member of Blyth Pres-
byterian. church, Messrs. George
Wheatley, Louis Bolton, Harold
Bolton, and the Misses ilitinnie and
Mildred 'Wheatley and Irene Bolton
'becoming members through nrofess-
sion of faith. An.anthem, "Come
unto me all who arheavy laden and
T will give you rest," was sung by
Miss Grace Scarlett, while the offer-
ing was being taken,
Anniversary, services will be held
in Caven church this Sunday. Rev.
Nta Chidleg, of Thames Road, will
conduct the services at 11 and 7
o'clock. As there will be no fowl
supper in connection with the anni-
versary services this year, a special
collection is being asked for. We !tope
every one will respond generously.

A few of our sportsmen left on
M,fondayfmo•ning on a hunting trip to
Purrs Sound district. Those that
went were Messrs. Clarence Bennett,
Joseph Bennett, John Bennett, Wai-
ter Eaton, Fergus Ballard .,incl Wil -
I liam Kinney., Mr, C, Bennett took
his motor truck and they intend mak-
ing the trip by motor within a few
miles of the camp. They intend to be
away a week or 10 days and expect
to bring home a <leer each.. We wish
then luck and a safe return home.

Hallowe'en passedover very quiet-
ly. A number of the young folks were
very much discolored and looked as
though they were representing coon -

Miss Olive McGregor, Winnipeg;
Man„ is home attending her father's
funeral
Late John McGregor, --There pass-
ed away quietly on Oct. 31st at his
home, Lot 8, Concession ,11, FIu11et,
Mr. John McGregor, who was born
in -Glasgow 84 years ago. He came to
Canada while• still quite young and
settled on his farm while it was un-
broken :bush, .lir. McGregor had
been ailing for some time and and
the end was not unexpected. There
are left to mourn the loss of a
kind and loving father, four sons
and three daughters, namely, Albert
of Arden, Man„ Wallace- of Days -
land, Alberta, John of. Walkerton,
Mrs, Sproul and Miss Olive of Win-
nipeg, Mrs, Knox of 'Hullett and
Frank at home; also one brother and
sister, James of Vancouver, and Mrs.
Wiggenton. of Clinton. Mr. Me -
Gregor was Married 56 years ago, to
Iilizabeth Ward, of Seaforth, who
passed away 31 years ago. Mr. Mc-
Gregor was an honest and honorable
pian, who was highly respected in
the community, The funeral was
held oil Tuesday, Nov. 4th, Rev. Mr.
Abrey taking the services.
Mr. and Mrs, McEwing and family
spent p the week -end with friends in
Stanley.
Hallowe'en went off quietly in this
vicinity.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Martin spam
Sunday at the latter's brother, Mfr.
Reid.
Mr. Ernest Stevens and Mr. Thos.
Fairservice has purchased Mr, James
Fairservice's store in Londesboro and
intend to run a general store,
Mr. James Leiper finished up
threshing in this vicinity last week.
The Ladies' Aidis to be held at
Mrs. Allen's on Thursday afternoon.
Prayer meeting was held its the
school house on Wednesday evening.
