The John Joynt Cup is causing
some competition.' to hold it here. In
addition to. 8 games previous played
since the cup was brught to Sea -
forth, there 'have been played this
weele. On 'Saturday London made a
Second attempt and failed 20-8.
Tuesday saw Lucknow, a bunch of
good sports, make their fourth try,
but were defeated 20-6. The team on
Tuesday consisted of J. McGuaig, A.
Turner, J Cantelon and D. Ai,
Johnstone (skip). Godertch played
on Wednesday and lost 17-9.

ADVISES SARNIA
Sarnia is to hold a reunion next
July and in seeking information, ask-
ed Mr. Sutherland to address a public
meeting on IvIonclay night in that
place. blr. Sutherland and Mr, J.
Broderick went clown and found a
large audience awaiting therm Al-
though ,Mr. Sutherland had expected
to meet only a committee, he rose to
the occassion and gave the meeting
expert knowledge, Mr. J. Broderick
wits in his element describing decora-
tions needed, and the necessary steps
were taken to ensure a successful
reunion. They were royally re-
ceived and shown over •the city on
Tuesday morning.

TRAIN LATE.

THE PLEBISCITE.
It would seem from the reports
published that Huron County. gave
the largest dry majority of all the
counties in the Province. The total'
dry vote was' 17,090 and the total wet
vote 4,981, giving a dry majority of
12,109. One polling subdivision in
Wawanosh reports 92 dry votes and
only one wet; another in Tuckersmith
138 dry and seven wet; still another
one in Stanley, 90 dry and five wet.
Not one municipality gave a wet
majority.

LUKES ACQUITTED.
At the trial at Godeiich on Wed-
nesday before Judge Barron, of Strat-
ford the Lukes brothers who were
sent up for trial for conspiracy to
defraud, were acquitted The trial
was the subject of much discussion
as many local people were interested,
having had dealings with the brothers
when they carried an a flax business
here.

The regular meeting of the .Wo-
men's Missionary 'Society was held on
Tuesday afternoon in the school
room of the First Presbyterian
church. Mrs. James Cowan presided,

Ments were made for the Thank -
offering meeting to be held on Nov.
9th at which Dr, Laird, Toronto, will
deliver an address. Au interesting
paper on mission work in Russia was
read by Mrs, Geo, Sparks.: ;Prayers
were offered by Mrs. James Cowan
and Miss H. I. Graham.
BARBARA KIRKMAN.
The annual thankoffering meeting
of the Barbara Kirkman Y. W. A,
was held on Tuesday evening, in the
school' room of, the Presbyterian
church. There was a large attendance.
The President, Airs. H. J. Gibson, oc-
cupied the chair, the Bible reading
being taken by Miss :Bessie Grieve,
and the prayer by Mrs. J. Sclater,
Mrs. George Telford, Blyth, gave an
address on "What We, as Wotnen,
arc to Christ" Selections :from the
missionary gleanings and current
events were read byMiss Pearl Pat-
terson and Miss Edith McKay, A
duet by Misses Harriet Murray. and
Fdith McKoy was much appreciated.
The dedicatory prayer was offered by
Miss S. I. McLean. The offering
amounted to $57:15.
EGIVLONDVILLE.
The Y.P.S.C.E. of the Egunond-
vide church held their regular meet-
ing on Monday evening, Oot, 27th. In
the absence of the President, the
second vice-president, Mr. Edwin
Chesney, presided. The meeting was
opened by the singing of several
hymns, after which Rev. Air. Mc-
Donald led in prayer. • The Scrtgture
passage was read by Miss Lansing.
The topic, "The Foreign Population
in Canada" was taken by Miss Pearl
Carnoohan.. Rev. Mr, McDonald also
gave a short talk on the topic Miss
Sadie Howitt, sang a solo 'aocompan_
icd byMr. 'Earl Van Egm'onad on the
piano, and Air. Innis, :on the violin.
There were a fete minutes' intermis-
sion during which a pen contest was
held, Geo. Coleman's group twinning.
The was also community singing. The
meeting •closed with the Mizpah
benediction.. Nett'week's meeting- on
Nov. 3rd, will take the form of a soc-
ial for Hallowe'en, the programme
consisting of a delbate Topic, for de -1
bate is "Resolved that Gossip Does
More Harm than War,' after• which a
Short musical and 'literary programme
will be given All are cordially invited
to this evening's entertainment. Ad-

Anniversary services will be held
in Huff's. Presbyterian church on
Sunday, Nov. 2nd, Special music is
being prepared by the choir, A large
attendance is expected.' The Chris-
tian Endeavor Society purpose hold-
ing a social evening on Hallowe'en
(Friday eve). A programme will be
given consisting of music and games,
after which fight refreshments will
be served. Everybody welcome,
The play given by the Belgrave
dramatic club entitled "His Uncle's
Niece" under the auspices of the
ladies' guild of St. George's church,
was a decided success. The A.O.U,W.
hall was well filled and all report it
as "a real treat." The violin selections
played by Miss Lewin were much en-
joyed.
Mr. H. Jackson has gone west re-
cently to look after business in that
district, where he formerly resided.
Mr, and Mrs. Radford have taken
up residence in Miss Coleman's
house.
