Seymour Thornton died at his
hone in Pleasant Valley in his 73rd
year. He was a pioneer of Wing -
ham. Ile is survived by his widow,

The_ people of Clinton were shocked
by the news of the death of Fred. W,
Peckitt, of Tuckersnt'ith. He has not
been well lately. However he attend-
ed the Organ factory picnic at Bay-
field on Saturday and seemed to
enjoy it very much. Possibly he
overtaxed his strength as he passed
away at his hone Sunday evening,

Fred Hoggarth, of Stephen, had
his collar bone and a rib broken .when
a 3 -horse team hitched to a binder,
became unmanageable.
A wedding took place on August
6th when Rev, F. E. Clysdale iitiited
in marriage Fred. \Vm. Smith, sou
of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, Stephen,
and 'Miss Ila Ione Mitchell, daughter
of lir. and Mrs, W. Mitchell, Exeter.
The bride was attended by her sister,
Miss Ida, and the groom supported
by 13ber Redden. The young couple
left on a motor trip to London,
Brantford and Galt. On their return.
they will make their home in
Exeter,
Mrs. Thos. Sweet was stricken
on August 1st with a paralytic stroke
while eating her supper.
On August 2nd, George May,. Ex-
eter, passed away after an illness of
2 weeks, aged 66 year. He was born

Gordon Hanlon, one of the young
men who some months ago evolved
a scheme to increase h'is bank ac-

lecting sums of money -ranging from
five to thirty-five dollars, was in the
toils at Goderich; having been taken
before Judge Lewis on a charge of
reckless driving and doing bodily

three months in the Ontario reforma-
tory. While the two young men
were in Exeter they dict a land-office
business and in many cases the
money was paid over, but neither the
picturesnor money havesince been
seen. - -
One of the meanest and most
dastardly offences that has been
perpetrated in this community for a
long time occurred on Saturday night
last. Mr. and Mrs.Preston Dearing,
of Stephen, had driven to Exeter
with their horse and buggy and had,
left both standing near a blacksmith
shop while they went shopping. On
return they foundthat the harness
had been literally cut to pieces.' tit

left Thursday evening for Belleville,
where Mr. Connor will visit his bro-
ther. The former is in his 92nd and
the latter in his 90th year. These two
