On Dec, 1st 18 adults of Fire-
side Farm Forum met at the
home of ;Mr. and airs. Bob Dal-
ton, Some said they would not be
willing to accept an average cost
of production figure for bargain-
ing, instead of their own figures.
They thought it would likely be
very unfair to the small farmer,
Cost of production varies so
much even in one community,
and from year to year. Even on
the same farm it even varies
from month to month. Others
said they would be willing, be-
cause so few farmers keep accur-
ate accounts and the government
would . need some figures on
which to base cost of production.
We would prefer the figures ta-
]ten by a farm organization or
VLA Board as they should know
best.
Some suggested that farm. pro-
ducts shohild be sold on a quota
basis, allowing only a percent-
age according to the size of farm,
to be eligible for the floor. price.
This would help prevent over-
production and stop contract
feeding companies from flooding
the market, Floor prices should
be greatly lowered or eliminated
to discourage the contract farm-
ers, Mrs. Geo. Hoggart invited us
for next week,
Games: Mrs. Robt. Jamieson,
Eric Anderson; lone hands, Mrs.
11. Taylor, Bill Evane; consola-
tion, Mrs, F. Halley, J. I•loggart.
POSTAL SUGGESTIONS
FOR CHRISTMAS MAILINGS
The annual Christmas rush in
mailings is approaching, and as
a service to the Public the fol-
lowing suggestions are made to
assist in handling the volume of
mail received.
On -Monday, Dec. 8, provision
will be .lade at the Post Office
for an extra nailing receptacle.
This will be for the use of local
greeting card mailings for Sea -
forth, Seaforth Rural Routes, St.
Columban, Egmondville and Wal-
ton. It is hoped that patrons will
correctly use this receptacle.
For Greeting Cards, to assist in
handling separate local mailings
from out-of-town mailings and
tie them in separate bundles,
mail themthe tied le t
e int bundles a
Street Letter Boxes or in the cor-
rect receptacle at the Post Office.
The rate on Greeting Cards (3rd
class matter) remains the same
as in previous years. Cards with
no more than five written words
mailed in unsealed envelopes re-
quire only le postage for delly-
ery anywhere with third class
handling. If mailed in sealed en-
velopes the usual letter rate ap-
plies, this mail may contain
written messages and will re-
ceive first class handling, the
sante as important business mail.
For important first class mall,
if quantity warrants, it too could
he tied in bundles, and patrons
are requested if mailing at the
Post Office to hand first class
mail in at the wickets. This will
ensure separation from the vol.
ume of third class greeting cards
and speedier despatch. For dist-
ant points Air Mail will speed
delivery of all mail during the
rush season. Post Office Depart-
ment suggested deadline mailing
dates for a guaranteed Christmas
delivery are shown on the Post
Ofi'ire notice boards and addi-
tional information may be ob-
tained on inquiry.
The largest mail despatches of
the day are those that close at
1.45 p.m. anis G.15 p.m. To allow
for preparation and despatch. of
these mails General Delivery pa-
trons are requested NOT to asic
for mail between the hours of
1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. and from
5.20 p.m. to 6 p.m. Boxhoiders aro
again requested to bring their
keys and not ask for mail from
lock boxes. Mail early and avoid
disappointment.
