The funeral of the late Mielt-
ael McQuade took place from the
home of his nephew, James E.
McQuaid, McKillop twig. to St.
Columban Church on Thursday,
October 23rd. Requiem High Mass
was celebrated by his nephew,
Very Rev. Thomas McQuaid S11Ai.
The pallbearers were six neph-
ews, James Delaney. Jos. Delan-
ey, John McQuaid, Wilfred Mc-
Quaid, Prank McQuaid, Windsor;
Frank McQuaid, Stratford. alnter-
ment followed in St. Columban
Cemetery. Attending the funeral
from a distance were Edward
McDonald, Detroit, representing
the Commonwealth Bank of
which Mr. McQuade was an em-

The Kippen East Institute field
their Oct. meeting at the home of
Mrs. Robert Bell on Wed, even-
ing. The meeting opened with
Ode and Mary Stewart Collect,
Roll call was answered by "What

W, I. this year?" Secretary read
the minutes of last meeting and
the' treasurer's report vitas given,
The president then concluded the
business part of the meeting. The
resolutions for Area Convention
were reviewed and family night
discussed. 310 was donated to In-
stitute for Blind. Mrs. Wm. Bell
was named delegate to attend
W. I. Rally in Exeter on Nov. 5.
It was again decided to make a
Christmas ealte and sell tickets
and the draw to be made at the
Christmas dance,
mis-1 Mrs. W. Broadfoot, convenor
of Citizenship and Education pre-
sided over the remainder of the
meeting and introduced the guest
speaker, MTs. W. L. Whyte, who
gave a very interesting talk on
"Education". The speaker was
thanked by Mrs, R. Upshall. Cur-
rent Events by :Mrs. A. Varley
and a reading by Mrs. W. Broad -
foot. Mrs, Jas. Drummond con-
ducted a contest and the meeting
closed with "The Queen". Lunch
was served by the committee in
charge. Mrs. Russel Brock ex-
pressed thanks to hostess.

We, in Seaforth, have followed the tragic
events of recent days in Springhill, in
which so many lives were lost.`
There is nothing we here can do about
the lives that were lost, but we can do
something to aid the shattered families—
the loped 'ones that now are alone as a
result of the disaster.
We can and should assist with donations,

Mrs. Prank Walters presided
for the October meeting of the
W. I. held in the Walton Com-
munity hall on Thursday even-
ing, Oct. 23rd. The secretary.
Mrs. E. AICCreatlt reported on
the September meeting and read
the correspondence. A trip to the
County Home at Clinton was
planned with Mrs. G. MeGavin,
Mrs. L. Ryan, Airs. N. Reid and
Mrs. James Nolan in charge of
the program. All are requested
to bring card tables and cards to
the November meeting which will
be family night.
A. progressive euchre party was
planted for Monday evening,
Nov. 3rd with the following com-
mittee in charge. Mrs. E. Stay -
ens, Airs. H. Craig, Mrs. E. Don-
gan and Mrs. F. Walters. The roll
call was answered with "What I
learn most from Radio, Televis-
ion or reading".
'Airs. Harold Bolger and Mrs.
Clarence Martin, co -conveners of
Education, took charge of the
second part of the meeting. A
TIT and Radio survey was filled
out by Mrs: FIarold. Bolger after
which Mrs. C. Martin gave the
motto, "One who ceases to learn,
Ceases to live". A report on the
Guelph. Area W. I. Convention
held•iu War Memorial Hall, OAC"
Guelph on Sept. 24th and 25th
was given by Mrs. Doug Ennis.
During the social period a Hula
Hoop contest was held which
proved very entertaining.
Lunch hostesses were Mrs. H,
Travis, Mrs, S. Flum,phries, Mrs.
P. MacDonald, Mrs. Jas. Nolan.
The regular moutlrly meeting
of the 17th and Boundary group
of Duff's United Church ,vas held
aL the home of Mrs, Thos, and
Mrs, Roy Williamson with 22
members and one visitor present.
The president, Mrs. Donald Buch-
anan was in charge of the meet -
ng. Scripture reading Psalm 121
lvat taken by Mrs.. Martin -Baan.
Minutes were read and approved.
It Was' decided to do sewing for
the Unitarian Service Committee
shortly. After the discussion per-
iod the meeting closed with the
singing of hymn 400 "Fight the
Good Fight" and the Mizpah Ben-
ediction, A successful bazaar was
held and lunch was served by the
hostesses. Mrs, Jan Van Vliet,
Mrs, Geo. Williamson Mrs, Her-
bert Williamson and Mrs. Jim
Williamson and a social half
hour spent.
The Campbell re -union was
held in Walton Community Hall
on Oct, 17th with about fifty
present, The evening was spent
in playing (progressive euchre.
The prizes were taken . by Mrs.
Reta Orr and Neil Turnbull with
the first and lone hands Mrs. N.
Reid and Bobby Pryce. Following
the cards Neil Turnbull enter-
tained with two piano solos. Miss
Dianne Turnbull gave a reading
and sang a solo. Mrs. Ethel
Haclewell gave a humorous react-
ing. The following officers were
appointed, for 1:959: Pres.. Mr. E.
McKinley; Sea-Treas., Airs. Nel-
son Reid; Program, Mrs. James
Turnbull, Airs. Rae Houston, Geo.
Watt; lunch: Mrs. L. Pryce, MVlrs.
D, Fraser, Mrs. W. C. Hockwell.
This was followed by a delicious
lunch.
Rally Day will be observed in
Duff's United Church next Sun-
day morning.
Mrs. Margaret. Humphries has
returned home alter spending
the past week with her daughter
Mrs. H. Rutledge, London.
Miss Olene Dundas of Kitchen-
er visited at her home over the
weekend,
Mrs, Jas, Dennison of Galt vis-
ited with her sister, Mrs. George
Dundas one clay last week.

Clinton visited with Mr. and Mrs.

nurse at Stratford General Hos-
pital spent the weekend with
her Parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C.
Hackwell.
A large number from here at-
tended the funeral of the late
John Buchanan in Stratford on
Monday afternoon. Interment
was made in Maitlandbank Cem-
etery, Seaforth,
IMr. and Mrs. Roy Plante of
Toronto were weekend guests at
the home of Mrs. E. Ennis.

Mrs, Amelia Schroeder return-
ed home after spending the past
two weeks with relatives at
Woodstock.
