A number of ratepayers from Harpurhey attended the meeting to discuss street lighting costs for the said bamiet and indicated that 18 were opposed to Lite pro- ject while six were in favor. Council had procured estimates of installation and maintenance costs from the II.E.P.C. in an- swer to a petition trona ratepay- ers but in view of the large ma- jority not in favor decided to abandon the project. Council passed a by-lawincor- porating the Brucefield Fire De- partment into a nnuticipal fire dept., the ownership of which will. be jointly vested in the townships of Stanley and Tuokersmith. Payment will be called on Oct. 15, ie -i8, on accumulated repairs to the Wallace Drain. The accounts passed included: Dump, 922.50; Fox bounty, $1.00; hospitalization, $101.12; advertis- ing and supplies, $118.07; fire protection, 91114.00; postage, 95; salary and allowances, $234.48; income tax, 97.15; supplementary allowance, 925.00; roads, 92546.- 07; 2540-07; grants, $50.00; rebate bond cheques, 9000.00; membership fees, 960.00. Council adjourned to meet on Oct, 7th at 8 p,m. Peter E. Malon- ey, R.R, 5, Seaforth.. The Rev. Fr, John M3cCowell officiated and the Rev, Thomas McQuaid, of Toron- to, was present in the sanctuary. The bride wore a floor -length gown of lace over satin, with lily point sleeves and Modified scoop- ed neckline accented with lace motifs. Lace appliques accented the skirt. A crown headdress held her waist -length veil and she carried red roses with white 'mums.. Identical gowns of mint green sills organza over taffeta were Worn by the bride's attendants, Miss Joan Maloney, as maid of honor; Miss Rose Marie Feeney, Dublin, and hiss Margaret Wood - hall, (Kitchener, bridesmaids, and Patricia Ziler, Seaforth, flower girl. Patrick O'Rourke, of Dun- das, was ring bearer. John Etue, brother of the bride, was best ratan and ushers were Peter Iliclnrell and Cyril Mur- ray, Kitchener, For travelling, the bride chose an olive green wool sheath with matching accessories, green fea- ther hat, muskrat jacket and a corsage of red roses. The couple will live in Kitchener. The estimated cost of 13 street lights, with iustalation, for Har- purhey was 91290 for one type of light and 91540 for another, with maintenance costs of about 910 per year per light. Half the cost was to be charged to residents of the area and the other half on the general rate as in Egmond- ville. • TRACTOR BLAZE A tractor ou the far'nt of Wil- fred Maloney of McKillop near Beechwood blazed up about 2 o'- clock Friday afternoon. Seaforth firemen responded with the truck and extinguished the last of the flames which were nearly out when. they arrived. The machine seemed to have suffered little damage, and the engine started readily. air. Maloney had refuel- ed the tractor and was starting the motor when fire broke out. It is thought a spark from the starter ignited .fumes from a small quantity of fuel which dripped onto the tractor, The weather was very warns. NO LOCAL FIRES With four months of the pres- ent year to go Fire Chief John Scott is beginning to consider that a long -cherished hope may be realized: no serious fire in the town for a whole year. So far this year there bas been no seri- ous outbreak within tite town limits. One other year the fire chief nearly attained his object- ive. lir. The book, covering the his- tory of the six clubs in the coun- ty, various county events and containing pietures, should make it well worth a dollar, • The next meeting of the Junior Farmer Executive will be held in Clinton on September 22nd, Kippen Girl Wins In Beauty Contest Pretty Pat Lovell, 17 year old contestant of Kippen was Crown- ed Miss Grand Bend on Labor Day before 1,600 persons who jammed into the Lakeview Casino for the annual Labor Day cele- bration. There was also some damage by the wind, the remain- ing large maple tree at the church being partly blown down. 4-H Girls To Exhibit At Seaforth Fair Seaforth's 113th annual Fall Fair is only two weeks away. Filial plans will be laid for the fair at a meeting of the tliret't- ors in the town hall on 'Thursday night. Girls belonging to •4-1-1 clubs are reminded of the section spon- sored by the Seaforth \V."L The homemaking entries this year will consist of a skirt for one en- try and a juniper for the other. The classes will consist of a jun- ior and a senior class. The Club Girl Stands on Guard will be the theme of exhibits of the Seaforth club, Equal prize money will be paid to girls put- ting in a display of their record books, charts and first aid kits. Miss Hamilton of Milverton was guest speaker at the mother and daughter banquet which was held at the church on Friday evening, under the auspices of the C,G,i,T, using as her theme part of the C.G.I,T. purpose, "Seek Truth, Know Gad". Fol- lowing the supper which was served by the girls, a varied program of hymns aid readings was provided by the members with their leader, Airs. M. Lam - mond in the chair. A reaffilia- tion service was conducted by Mrs. Lamoud with Airs. J. Bry- den and Mrs, T. L. Scott assist- ing. The gathering closed with "Taps". Service in Cromarty. Church on Sunday morning was conduct- ed by Rev. C. D. Henderson of St. Catherines. Aug. 28, Leaving Walton at 8 a,m„ Western 'University was the first stop where we were shown through a number of buildings by Dean Hoskin and Dr. Neal Dean of Woolen. From here we proceeded to the Kellogg's plant, then to the Iroquois Hotel for dinner. The first stop after din- ner was the Coca Cola plant, then to Tweedsmuir Hall, the Institute for the Blind, The group separ- ated for,, two hours shopping and refreshments before boarding the bus at 6 p,tn, All enjoyed the drive to Springbank Park where we toured Story Book Gardens and saw Slippery the seal. We arrived at Walton at 0 p.m. all feeling it had been a very inter- esting and educational trip. Rev. H. V. Miss Connie Coutts has return- ed home after spending the past two weeks with Mr, and Mrs, Jas, Cameron, Sarnia. ROBERT GRIEVE A well known Seaforth resi- dent, Robert Grieve, passed away suddenly. Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock. IIe was in his 77th year. Born in McKillop twp. he attended school at Winthrop and S.S. No. 2. In his early years he was a teamster and carpenter, and in recent years devoted some of his time to gardening. He is survived by a sister, Mrs, Bertlia M. Flabltirk of town. The funeral will he held en Friday, Sept, lith at 2 pan, from the Box funeral home. Rev. D. Leslie Elder of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Pallbearers are Gordon Pullman, Ronald Pullman, Leslie Habkirk, Prank Grieve, D. Hud- dleston and Leslie Hogg. Inter- ment will he in Maitlantbank Ceuttery.
