A large group of former, teach,
ers, parents, pupils and 'friencls
journeyed from the church to
the school where the ringing of
the ball took place at 9,80 a.m.
After "School Days" by the ca-
parity audience, Jack Morris, for-
mer pupil, acting as master of
ceremonies, opened the morning
program with prayers led by the
present teacher and pupils.
This was -followed by the salut-
ing of the flag and the singing of
"0 Canada".
Mr. William McMillan, former
pupil, chairman of the Jubilee,
gave an address of welcome. A_
hymn, "The Ten Commandments"
was sung by the pupils with
Sharon "Burke leadingin the solo
part, The roll call of former tea-
chers and pupils was conducted.
The teachers were presented with
dainty corsages by Sharon Burke,
and Mary Lou Murray gave each
of them a list of the pupils taught
by then and they eoeupiecl chairs
of honor at the front of the plass
room,
Mrs. John A. Murphy (Lucy
Burke), Seaforth, who ' taught
from 1921 to 1931 was presented
with a gift as the teacher who
taught the greatest number of
511911s, 77 in all.
Present also were Mother M.
Alice (Psgnes Coyne) 1936 - 1937,
Mrs, Joseph Kale, St. Columban,
supply teacher of 1943, the only
one in fifty years. Thomas D.
Morris, Tillsonburg, 1944 - 1945,
the only male teacher of the last
half century. Mrs. James Kraus-
kopf, Dublin (Helen'. 38. Flana-
gan) 1946 to 1948;: and Mrs. Joe-
eph Melady, 1948 to 1958.
Each teacher " spoke briefly
about their teaching experiences.

M. J. BLANCHARD
The death occurred Tuesday,
July 1, at his late residence "in
Brussels of Melvin •James• 'Blan-
ebard. He was the 'only surviving
member of the familyof the'late
Hiram R. Blanchard and Agnes
Cash of MoKillop. He was in his
94th year and was born . in Mc-
Killop where he farmed all his
life, until he retired to Brussels
in 1951. He was' a member of
First Presbyterian Church, Sea -
forth, where he was e. member of
the session. He was also'a mem-
ber of the Cavan Presbyterian
Church at Winthrop and was a
faithful member of the choir
there for several years. His wife',
the former Betsy Dodds, prede-
ceased him in 1931; also a daugh-
ter Julia Mae in 1907. He is sur-
vived by three sons and one dau-
ghter, Hiram and. Thomas of Mc -
Killen; Melvin, Montreal;' Bessie,
Mrs. Stanley. King, Stratford, also
ten grandchildren and nine great-
grandchildren, He is survived by
his second wife, the, former Alice
Fraelick of Brussels, Interment
will be in Maitlandbank cemetery.

Miss Dorothy Enzensberger,
18 -year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Euzensberger, God-
erich, and granddaughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Sills Sr: has suc-
cessfully completed` her Degree
of Associate of Music ,.Perform-
ers (A. Mus. Per.) University of
Western Ontario Conservatory of
Music. Dorothy expects to attend,
Toronto University this fall to
begin a 3 -year course in Oceupa-
tdonal and Physio Therapy,
Merton A. Reid
Was Former Mayor
Merton A. Reid, prominent Sea -
forth business Hien, died Friday
in Scott Memorial Hospital in his
61st year, He had suffered a heart
attack the previous week. He had
been in failing health'for a num-
ber of years,
Mr. Reid was born at Holstein
and attended Mount Forest high
school. He saute to Seaforth 30
years ago as a partner in the in-
surance business of James Wat-
son, and on taking over the buss-
ness also became a real estate
agent.
Mr, 'Reid served as town coun-
cillor for 13 years and two years
as mayor. He wan treasurer of the
Lions Club for many years, and
was also president.
Mr. Reid was secretary - treas-
urer of the Seaforth district high
school board for a great many
Years. He. was chairman of the
Scott Memorial Hospital 'Board
for several years. He was a mem-
ber of the Legion, having trained
in the RCAF in the first war.
Mr. Reid was a member of the
curling and howling clubs, and
enjoyed fishing and hunting. He
WAS past master of Britannia
lodge Ax' & AM, a member of
First Presbyterian Church and
an elder of the Board.
He was manager of the McKil-
lop Mutual Fire Insurance Co,
for about 25 years.
In 1927 he was married to Jean
Davidson who died in 1943. He
is survived by two brothers
Earl, Holstein, and Melvin of
Hamilton, and one sister, Mrs.
A. T. Ashdown, Toronto, Two
brothers predeceased him.
The funeral service was held
Monday at 2 p.m. in First Pres-
byterian Church, with Rev. Leslie
Elder officiating. Burial was in
Maitland. Bank Cemetery under
auspices of Britannia lodge.

PAY TAX INSTALLMENT
Seaforth tax payers during the
week paid the first installment of
their 1958 taxes which was due
on Monday. This is the first year
in the town's history that taxes
will be paid in two payments.
Town officials say they believe
results have been good but offic-
ial returns from the bank will
not come in until next week.
RECEIVE REPORT
A report of town sewer plans
has been received by the town
from.the MacLaren firm. The re-
port which is quite extensive, is
receiving close study by the com-
mittee.

Will Retire

of the Seaforth branch of The
Canadian, Bank of Commerce for
the past 19 years will retire July
20 after 48.3' years of service..
Educated in New Hamburg pub-
lic and continuation -schools, he
commenced his banking career in
Platteville, Ontario. He worked
in various branches of the bank
including Chatham, Toronto,
Blenheim, Hamilton and London.
prior to assuming management
of the Seaforth branch.'He saw'
military service with the 111th
Battalion Canadian. Expeditionary
forces and the Middlesex and
Huron regiment. - He Is a past
president at tite Kinsmen Club of
London and a past master of Bri,-
tannic, lodge AF & AM. Always
interested in public service, he is
a past secretary of the Lions Club
of Seaforth. He has served on
the board of Scott Memorial Hos-
pital and as local treasurer for
the Canadian National Institute
for the Blind. For a time he was
secretary of the Huron County
War Services Committee and
during the last tuberculosis sur-
vey, he was chairman ' of supplies
for the county of Huron. An ard-
ent sports fan, he played junior
OHA hockey against Howie Mor-
enz when- the latter was with
Stratford Juniors and was a
member of the Platteville Royals
championship . baseball team of
1917.
The Brightralls will continue
to reside In Seaforth. Mr. L. F.
Ford of Thedford will succeed
Mr. Brightrall.

The Seaforth Peewees won a
close game here Monday night by
downing the Mitchell club 14-13.
The winning run came in the last
inning when Joey Dick walked
and Benny Akker hit a home run
to win the game. The strong hit-
ters for Seaforth were Akker,
Phillips and, Popple each collect-
ing a pair 'of hits. Both pitchers
pitched .a strong game giving up
few walks.

Patrick's Parish, Dublin, Jacob
Sclroondrewoeicl, died at his home
on Monday after a prolonged ill-
ness. Mr. and Mrs. Schoondre-
woeid have resided on their faun
on No. 8 Highway, 3 utiles east
of Dublin about five years ago
coming from the Kinkora dist-
rict. They had previously emi-
grated from. Holland. Surviving
are his wife, the former Johana
Vanderberg, seven sons, Jack,
Neil,. Mil, Toni, Clemens, Luke
and John; and four daughters:

Chief of police atSeaforth, ef-
fective July 15th,
Mr. Hutchison was Durham
chief from June 1955 to November
1950, when he resigned, In March
