CROP REPORT The'rains of the 'last weekend and during bhe week were we'I conned by the farmers as ground conditions had been ve}'y dxy, says D. ,$I. Miles, Agri, Rep., for Huron County. However it ha interrupted seeding .operation and there has been very little grawth of the grain that has been seeded. 1Some dormers in the' South end of the County have completed their seedin operations. FEDERATION NEWS By Carl Hemingway d (Huron County Federation of Agricu•1'tare held their regular monthly meeting at which the Secretary read a letter from the Ontario Hospital Services Com- mission. This announced that there are several copies of a film available free explaining • how this new plan wall operate There was a good deal of dis cussion on the question of a canvass for a brucellosis free area. Many people seem fearful of the finaneial doss that might result but it was pointed out that there is a continuous loss from the effects of the disease. W e seem to have lost sight of the real reason for this pro- gram, the health of our fami- lies. One of the -directors stated that a doctor in the Sick Child- ren's Hospital in 'Toronto said undulant fever was the most common and one of the worst diseases they had to combat. It doesn't cause many deaths but almost always leaves permanent disability to some degree. 'For this reason the Directors agreed that the' Federation do all in its power to spread the information of this plan and to 'make prepar- ation for a canvass this October. Mr. H. E. Hellman, Agricul- tural Extension specialist, told us that after the tornado which cut through Bruce County last year the government declared it a "disaster area" but in the accident survey taken ice Bruce it was shown that farm acci- dents cause twice that amount of loss etch year. To find the cause of accidents and thereby learn how'to avoid them a pro- vince -wide survey is expected before long. The following resolutions were presented by Frank Yeo of the :Resolutions Committee and were approved by the meet- ing. From Howick tap. Whereas obstructionist tactics have been used to waste time and confu- sion at meetings in some areas. Therefore be it resolved that chairmen be encouraged to en- force strict parliamentary pro- cedure to control discussion, From McKillop twp. Whereas it is felt that the number of Grade A hogs being produced is Mess than it should be. Therefore be it resolved that the Federation of Agriculture sponsor a. contest to encourage production of Grade A togs. While no action was taken on g have this by the county we were in- formed that any township .wish - in to h a a contest of this kind 'could obtain the necessary records.
