FEDERATION NEWS By Carl .Hemingway I have been attending meet- ings in Toronto for the past few days and some important information has developed. In the February -27th issue of bhe 'Seaforth News i learned that a pipeline is to he con- structed from Stratford to Sea - forth, along the railway line. It is interesting to note that the line is not being placed on Rail- way property. Your Federation of Agricul- ture Pipelines Committee has been working with the Minister of Mines under whose jurisdic- tion pipelines are listed. The Committee has been assured that the Pipelines Act will be studied and revised at this session. The Committee has requested that farmers be notified of the proposed pipeline and its exact location at least 90 days before the Company be allowed to pur- chase easements. They have been given reason to believe thatthis will be granted shortly. In the past Pipeline represen- tatives have suddenly arrived at the farmers door with an ease- ment form. If the farmer didn't agree at once he was accused of obstructing progress- In many eases the farmer was badgered into signing very unsatisfactory settlements. IIn the case of damages the Committee requests that the Company must accept all re- sponsibility for' any and all damages. This seems only rea- sonable since farmers could hardly be expected to subsi- dize industrial development. 'Pending this revision of Leg- islation farmers are urged not to sign any type of agreement on this question. Further your Federation of Agriculture has not approved any specific• eon - tract form. Every situation is different and therefore must be valued individually, First Presbyterian Church IThe Rev. D. ,Leslie Elder, . of Vernon, (Ont. 10 a,mm., Church School 11 a.m,.
