A minister tells this one: A
certain minister called on an
old lady, and found a parrot in
her parlor. The parrot kept say-
ing every little while; "I wish
the old girl would die." The min-
ister said he could set this mat-
ter right, "I, too, luive a parrot,
madam, and it is a very honest
bird. Its talk is very edifying
and it will soon guide your par-
rot into decent speech." The
minister sent the parrot that
evening and the grateful old
lady put them side by side.
Then with a pleased smile she
sat and waited to listen to their
conversation.
"I wish the old girl would
die" said the host .parrot. And
the guest parrot rolled his eyes
and declithned solemnly: "We
beseech thee to hear us, good
Lord."
