HULLETT On Dec. 2nd 15 adults of the Fireside Farm 'Forum met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Buchanan to discuss federal ac- tion for agriculture. We are not well enough informed to capably discuss the question as there was no guide for informa- tion about federal policy and tariffs. The tariff on fowl and milk products is beneficial to farmers. Increase hi freight rates would be another added burden on the farmers when purchasing feed grain and live- stock from western provinces. Mr. and Mrs. Jinn. Howatt invit- ed us for next week. Dorr^anceto discuss' the 'topic of 'Government ,policy, and we all agreed that present Government policy is not meet- ing our needs, and the epeeohes of our Minieter of .Agriculture_ telling western farmers to feed their grain to livestock, which is causing us much concern, ;as a surplus—of livestock. can .; be more dangerous and be more; difficult to look after than ;the present surplus of grain; and nobody is any better off. Re the second question: at was suggest- ed the 250 million' dollars ear- marked for agriculture assist- ance he used and not put into cold storage as was the 'habit of the. last Government. Also floor prices should. be ,,paid direct to the' farmer- and -not to the trade as in the present policy: Freight rates should not be in- creased any more. They are one of the farmers' biggest bur- dens and the spiral of wage and price increases should be stop- ped. The Government should be more firm on this subject. The hog market vote should be conducted on the straight 00% majority of those voting and not on the percentage of eligilble voters. In no other elec- tion is this system followed. So why should farm anaiketing schemes be singled out for this unfair treatment. Discussion was followed by euchre.
