SEAFORTH MAY TERMINATE
PROVINC'L POLICE CONTRACT
Faced with notice frosxi 'bhe
Provincial • Police Office at
Mount Forest that tihree police
will be required for ]Seaforth
next year, Seaforth town coun-
cil on Monday night decided to
reply that 'Seaforth would con
cider continuing' with two police
but could not renew the con-
tract if three men were requir-
ed. . •
'Council also voted a grant of
4700 to the Athletic Associa-
tion, being .half the amount
asked to take care of the hoc-
key deficit. '
!The session, of council lasted
till nearly midnight and was ad-
journed to text Monday night
whenthe tax rate will be struck
and other business completed.
All members of council were
present. and Mayor MdMaster
presided.
'Grahame Reid, engineer for
the town sewer, was present
and said he had inspected the
sewage disposal plant and was
' prepared to certify that the
Sp'arton firm hada 'carried out
the original intent of the -eon-
.1 'tract. He recommended that
Seaforth make an offer of $500
as settlement of a bill for $1,-
-260.8(5 which they claimed for
installation of water service at
the time the disposal plant was
built. There was doulbt , as to
the meaning of . the 'specifica-
tions, he said, but the firm had
. failed to supply flush hose.
- The matter was left in the
hands of 'Councillors Habkirk
• and Turnbull to consult P.U.C.
. and town solicitor, through
whom any settlement would be.
made.
fMr. Reid inquired if council
were considering a sewer ex
(tension to the hospital. If the
hospital is facing an expense
of a big sum of money to pro -
ride` temporary relief for their
sewage problem, it would be an
error not to connect to the ex-
isting town sewer, he said.
Dr. .McMaster asked permis-
sion to run a connection at his
own expense from the clinic
!`-.6 William St. apartment
to the sewer on Goderieh street,
about 425 feet.
Mayor McMaster said quite a
few sewer rates have not been
paid. At Jan. let, 3504 was un-
paid out of $.1400. The owner
of a large .business block on
Main street returned a bill for
x'100 to council, stating the sew-
er rates must be collected from
his individual tenants.
'Councillor Kellar asked what
is the use of putting in sewers
if the people refuse to pay.
'Council decided to send a letter
notifying the owner that action
will be taken by the town solici-
tor after ten days. Letters will
also be sent to all in arrears
that action will be taken
shortly.
In the property report, Coun-
cillor Habkirk said two grader
tires had :been sent in for re-
•" ataaThg at $147.60. Tires must
be perfect to be retreaded, he
said.
'Councillor (Kellar in the fire
and water report, said the high
pressure hose had been received
and the firemen are ordering
four lengths of fire hose.
'Councillor Ball, parks chair-
man, said grass had been cut
1 and some stumps removed.
