He said three calves had walked out of the ditch and onto bhe road in /front of him. Constable Helmer 'Snell investigated the accident. RUNS .OFF ROAD John Walsh, RJR. 1, Dublin, escaped serious injury early on Sunday morning when his car ran off the road and struck a , tree, badly wrecking it. The ac- cident occurred at the turn in the road just east of Grieve's bridge in IMdKillop bap. The weather was foggy. Constable H. T. Pryde's Condition 'Door Strikes Boy, Slightly Improved (Stitches Required John Pullman Jr:, 1% years. old son of Mr: and Mrs. Ronnie Pullman of Orpmarty met with an accident Friday ashen a heavy granary door fell on him, cutting his forehead. Fortunate- ly the door fell against the tree - or wheels and ,;prevented more serious consequences. I Mr. Pullman had been draav- ing:hay from the field and (Mrs. Pullman was assisting hien un- load at the barn at the time. They heard the little lad's cries and quickly lifted the door. Hs was taken to the Clinic at Sea - forth where a number of stitnh- es were required. He quickly re covered and is able to be around as usual. The boy is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs, John (Pullman; of town. Thomas Pryde, M.P.P. for Huron, is reiported slightly im- proved in 'Victoria Hospital, London, but still in a serious condition following a severe heart attack. Mr. Pryde had not been feel- ing well last week and made an appointment with a speciahs't in London. About 13.60 p.m. on Thursday, shortly after entering the doctor's office, Mr. Pryde collapsed with ,coronary throm- bosis and was removed to the hospital. Mr. Pryde has represented the riding of Huron in the Ont- ario Legislature since 1948, having won four' elections. His wife is the formerMaryM. Bell of Seaforth. . Clothing Catches In Moving Chain Another boy, Robbie Patrrak, 3 -year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patrick, Tuekersmadih, had a narrow escape ' Tuesday evening while a load of hay was being harvested. Unnoticed he got on the wagon and caught his clothes in a slowly turning chain for miming the load for- ward on the wagon. He Was res-, cued by Mrs. Patrick who came looking for him, His father and uncle working at the opposite end of. the wagon did not hear him with bhe noise otf the ma- chinery. X-rays were taken at Scott Memorial Hospital and he was able to return home: as no bones were broken.. He suffered from bruises and shock when. the legs of his jeans and under- wear and part of his shirt were torn off by the chain. He was able to be up and play around again by Wednesday afternoon. The death occurred in the 'Clinton Hospital on 'Thursday, July 11, 119167, of •Mrs.Penfold who had spent several weeks in the hospital owing to a fractur- ed limb. All that loving hands and kind hearts could do was of no avail owing to her advanced age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn her loss, Mrs. (Philippa) Manna Steckle, three grawddhil- dren and. some of her relatives at a distance. The body rested at the Westlake Funeral Home nn Zurich where a public '-ser- vice was held on Saturday .at. 112.,30 p.nr., and interment was in Elora )Cemetery. For many years he was located in the Broderick ,block and Mr. (Pullman worked 'with him in this shop for 111.years. Mr. 'Close also had shops in the Cardne block and in the Queen's in more re- cent years, When the Canadian National Express and Tele- graphs 'moved out of the Com- mercial some years ago Mr. Close moved there. Mr. Close is well known throughout the dis- trict for his work as a bandleader. He served ten years on the town council, retiring last year. Start Work on Ball - Macaulay Building (Construction' of the new 'Ball - Macaulay building bas sbarted, to replace the fonmer building which was destroyed by fire on' IMarch 113th. The new building will be of cement block walls with arch type roof..It will be6'2 feet wide, 114 feet long and 14 feet high and will contain the office, show rooms, work shop and some storage. The entrance to the office and show room will be on the west side, on High street, instead of on Huron Sreet. The Quarterly Bulletin of bhe Ontario Fire Marshall, which was issued this week, lists two major fires in this area. The Ball -Macaulay Limited fire loss was $52,645, and the R. J. 'Close this week sold his Ibarrber business located in the Commercial Hotel to Joan Pull .man who is moving out of his present Location beside the Can- adian Tire store. The change /wall take place this weekend. County team of Teith Coates R. R. 1, ,Centraliaallay Cann, of R. R. 3, Exeter and Bruce ,Cole- man, of R. R. 4, Seaforth, plac- ed second in competition with five other teams . representing the 4111 members in their re- spective counties. The top team in the Competition carie from IGratiot County, Michigan, and bad a score of 554 out of a pos- sible •600. The Huron County boys were second by five points. having a• score of 549 points. The third team represented Genessee County in Michigan. Their score was 49.9. Keith Coates, of the Huron County Team was the second high man in the 4411 'Competi- tion with a score of 18'6 out of a possible 200. The team receiv- ed $9.00 in prize money. The ICanvpetition was 'held at Park Franklin Fanm just north of Flint Michigan. The team was accoanlpanied by Ma; _Jack Peck, Klippen, Mr. Willianr R. Pep- per, of R. 11. 3, Sealforth, and !M•r. Bert /Pepper, of R. R. 3, Seaforth. In the open competi- tion at the Field Day Bert Pep- per tied for top place with John IDemalade of Watferd, Ontario, with a score of 146} points out of a possible 150 points. KIPPEN Bride -Elect Honored 'Complimenting '}Miss Margaret Kercher of London, whose mar- riage to James Henry Jordan, of Port Stewart, Northern Ire- land, will take place at Exeter on Saturday, July 27th, some 70 relatives, neighbors and friends honored her at a presentation held at the home of her parents; Mr. and Mrs. Herb Kercher, of Klippen on Friday, July The bride -elect was bhe recipient of many lovely and costly gifts which included a wall mirror, a floor lamp, 'two dresser lamps, rug, china, and' many other gifts. Presentation address was read by Mrs. Harold Parker, and gifts were presented to Margar et by Judy Jeffery and P•atrieia Parker in a basket decorated in color schemes of pink and white. A program was enjoyed consisting of vocal solos by Miss Faye Ross and Miss Dorothy Parker, and a piano solo by Miss Marian Pepper. Margaret and her sister Mrs. Spencer Jeffrey of Staffa, displayed the bridal trousseau and wedding gifts. ,Contests and lunch rounded out a most delightful evening. The girls on the staff of General Motors Diesel Plant, .London, where the bride -elect is employ- ed as a stenographer arranged a shower presenting her with a lazy susan, and many other gifts. Other functions are being arranged in her honor. Sunday Shcool Picnic St. Andrew's United Church, Kippen, held their annual Sun- day School picnic in Jowett's Grove, Bayfield, Thursday, July 11th. Close to 200 enjoyed a de- licious picnic supper. Sports were direeted by Mr. and Mrs. Wan. Coleman and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Lovell.
