The W. A. met in the school-
room of the Church on Tuesday
arfternoon, April 2nd with an •at
tendance of 37, Mrs, H. Berry
opened the devotionals with
hymn 112, followed by prayer.
Miss Mayane Swan read the
scripture from Matthew 16: 21-
4.r, Mrs. Wilmer ,Broadfoot gave
the topic, Self Sacrifice. This
part of the meeting closed with
hynm 360 and prayer. The
President then tobk the chair.

prayer.
Group 1 hacl charge of the
prograanme and lunch. Mrs. Da-
vison read a story on the Cru-
cifixion of Christ, and a very
touching pantomime was given
by Miss Marie Elliott, Mrs. H.
Allen, Mrs. W. Burdge and Mfrs.
G. Elliott. 'Mrs, G. Richardson
sang one verse of the hymn,
"When S survey the wondrous
Cross," as each approached the
cross and knelt in -an attitude of
prayer. .When all surrounded
the cross the congregation sang
as a prayer, "Beneath the cross
of Jesus, I fain would take my
stand".
In custody at Goderich are
Douglas E. M. Weaver, 18, and
Thomas Welburn, 26. They gave
their addresses as Halifax. They
were arrested Tuesday after-
noon by Constable Ron' Peterson

Two hitchhikers were picked
up Saturday on Highway 4, near
Brucefield, by Mr, Grainger. He

Varna 'United Church Mis-
sionary Society met at the home
of Mrs. 'Mervin Hayter, April 4.
Mrs. George Stephenson had
charge of the worship service

Stephenson.
Mrs. Anson Coleman, presi-
dent, took charge of the busi-
ness part of the meeting. The.

Webster, It was decided to en-
tertain Goshen and former
members at a meeting, May 2.
Ladies were appointed to pur-
chase 5 gifts for 'Indian girls,
requested by Miss .Saunders.
Clothing for the +bale to be
packed in May, is to be left in
the church basement. There
were 29 calls to shutins. 'Re-
p'orts of the Presbyterial at Clin-
ton were given by Mrs. Harvey
Hayter and Mrs. 'Robert Stirl-
ing. The' Study Book "East from
'Burma" was taken by Mrs. Geo.
(Reid. At the close of -the meet-
ing lunoh' was served by the
Front Road East group and a
social hour was enjoyed.

Two young men arrested on
charges of armed assault are to
appear in court "at Goderich, on
Thursday. They were arrested
at Crumlin, and charged with
being the two hitchhikers who
robbed Murray Grainger, Stan-
ley twp. after he had picked
them up and given -them food
-and shelter. -

After opening of meeting Di-
anne 'Dennis read the scripture
and Elisabeth Stewart led in
prayer. The minutes were read
by -Carol Dennis. Collection was
taken up by Nora 'Gorwill and
Mrs. Kerslake took the 'attend-
ance, It was :decided •tb :meet
next Monday at 7'p.m. instead
of Easter Monday. Elizabeth
Stewart was pianist for the
evening. After the meeting the
girls started to make scotch
dogs for the Afghan and Mrs.
Kerslake treated :to bowls of
popcorn.
GROUP 3 W. A.
Group three of the W.A. of
Northside United Church met at
the home of Mrs. H, Travis.
Mrs, B. Christie opened meeting
wibh a poem. The roll call was
answered with -an Easter
thought, showing. a good attend-
ance, Mrs. C. Cochrane 'presid-
ed over the 'business period,and
reminded the ladies of 'a Gener-
al W. A. meting to 'be held on
April 17 at 2.30 p.m, Mrs. C.
Pinder presided over the devo-
tional period. The scripture ta-
ken from Mark 16: 1-15 was
read by Mrs. A. Matheson, A
very impressive talk on "House-
cleaning our minds and souls”
was given by our guest speaker,
Mrs, W. L. Whyte. A social half
hour was spent and lunch serv-
ed by the lunch committee.

WINTHROP
The regular meeting of the
Winthrop C.G.I.T, was held in
Cavan Church, April 6th. The
meeting opened with the CGIT
purpose. The roll call was SAT.,
swered by 19 members. The
minutes of the previous meeting
were read.'by the secretary and
adopted. The Bible study was
given by Mrs. G. Blanchard,
Gloria and Edith 'Boyd took the
Mission study on the. Philip-
pine Islands. The offering was
the collecting of the Jingle
boxes and was followed with the
response The call to worship
was ;given by our president,
Marjorie Boyd and hymn 502
was sung. The scripture was
read by Sharon 'Somerville fol-
lowed by prayer given by 'Shir-
ley Doh -nage and the Litany of
:Consecration. Mrs. E. Toll took
charge of the business. We are
holding a service on Good Fri-
day evening in the Church, In
-Seaforth we are having a ba -
mar, April 20. On April 25th
the Mission Band is 'holding an
Easter Thankoffer•ing meeting
to which our CGIT is invited.
