Church, 'Kippen, died suddenly at the Manse Monday morning from a heart condition in .his 63rd year. Mr. McLeod had been confined to his home for the past three weeks but his condition was never consid- ered serious, and he expected to be back in the pulpit in a week or so, and his death comes as a greatshock to his congre- gation who had the highest es- teem for their •minister who was a very fine and upright man. Mr, McLeod was inducted into the ICippen charge on August 1 and assumed pulpit duty on Aug, 3rd, 1952. He was !born in the province of Quebec and took This high school work at Lennoxville Aca- demy and later his !B.A. degree at Bishop's College, Lennox- ville,'He went overseas in World War 1. as a combatant in the 5th C.M.R. and was wounded at Maple Copse in 1916 and again at 'Paschendale in 1917. He formerly held offices of secretary of the Quebec'Pres- bytery, past chairman of both, Presbyteries in which he. served Vermilion in Alberta and Que- bec Sherbrooke. He also served as ;:president -of the Sherbrooke and -District Ministerial Associa- tion. 'He received his B.D. degree from the `University of ,Alberta. Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Beatrice Farwell, a native of Lennoxville, one son, !Norman, employed with the Civil Service, and one daughter. (Marion) Mrs.. Garth Mosher, both of Ottawa. The Mr. McLeod was 61. re- mains rested at the manse. Fun- eral on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the church with burial at Len- noxville, Que. The meeting opened with hymn 585 after which she read a brief me- ditation on Lent and the Baster story. There is no positive gain in giving up luxuries for Lent 'but we mustsacrificefor God. Mrs. F. Johnston played softly "The Blessed Hour of Prayer" while the members' engaged in silent payer. Following this, Mrs. E. Toll reported on 'Christ- ian Education. Among' some of the interesting items she men- tion were "Are we active in Christian Education to Youth". We are drifting to secondary things. Plans were made for the St. Patrick's social to be held on 'Mareh 14th. The Day of Prayer was changed to Thurs- day owing to the tragic death of Mr. and Mrs, R. Kirkby. Mrs. T. 'Battles and til'Irs. R. K. Mc- Farlane were 'appointed dele- gates to attend the Presbyterial on Wednesday, March 27th in Wesley Willis Church, Clinton. Mrs. J. a. Holden arranged for a Lenten service to be held on Tuesday, March 12 at 8.15 p.m. Mrs. Wm. Alexander gave a Stewardship reading which was very helpful. Mrs, I. Trewartha, Mrs. Wm. James Scott of Roxboro is making good recovery in Eng land from shrapnel wounds. He had been fighting in France for a year. Mrs. R. Smith has disposed of lier residence to Neil Gillespie of Cromarty. Hugh Wright of Cromarty has moved to Seaforth. John McDonald of Walton has a gang of men hauling a number of large elm 'and bass• wood logs to his mill from the farm of James Kerr, McKillop. John Campbell( the hay Icing of Winthrop district has deliver: ed 425 tons of loose hay in town this winter. Wedding: 'Miss Jean Hamil- ton and James Love, both of Tuckersmith. Sergt. Earl Ross has been awarded the medal for gallantry in battle. He is the second Me- kiliap 'boy to win the coveted medal. Mr. and ,Miss Brooks of Eg- mondville have left for their home near Edmonton.
