A birthday gathering, Sunday, July
23rd, was the occasion of Mr. Henry
Erratt's 74th birthday, when their
family gathered at their home and
pleasantly surprised them. Dinner
was prepared and served by the fam-
ily and a very pleasant afternoon was
spent. We wish Mr. Erratt many more
such happy birthdays.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dimmlek and Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Rowson of Flint,
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hay-
ter and called on a number of other
friends on Goshen last week
Mr. Elgin McKinley has purchased
a combine from Mr. Geo. H. Beatty,
-which will be delivered this week.
Mrs. Myrtle Moore and grand-
daughter Doreen, of Toronto, visited
the past week with the former's sis-
ter, Mrs. Robt. E. Robinson.

The meal came to an end and the
well fed diners settled down to listen
to the speech of the guest of honor.
The latter rose, and for fifteen min-
utes his voice filled the room. "After
partaking of such an excellent meal,"
he went on, "I feel that if I had eat-
en any more I would have been un-
able to speak."
"Bring him another sandwich,"
came a drowsy voice from the rear
of the hall.

Mrs. Henry Cudmore has returned
to her home in Harpurhey from Exs•
ter, where she has been residing
with her' niece, Mrs. John Snell.
Rev. Father Nigh of Houston,
Texas, returned home on Wednesday
after spending a month's holidays at
the home of his mother, Mrs. William
Nigh, Seaforth, and other relatives
and friends in this district.
Rev. I. B. Kaine and family are
visiting at the home of his parents,
Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Kaine. Rev: L B.
Kaine will move next week to Dunn-
ville.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Dennis Andrews from
Buffalo -spent the week end with their
many friends here. It's 14 years since
he left here, and has made good in
Uncle Sam's domains.
Mrs. Theodore Serveny has re-
turned to her home in Detroit after
spending a few days with her parents
Mr, and Mrs. Henry Hoffman.
Mr. and Mrs. Burroughs of Detroit,
Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Clarke
and sons, of Stratford, visited at the
home of Mrs. John McLellan and
'other friends on Sunday.
Mrs. J. R. Dunlop and children of
Kincardine, who have been visiting
Mr, and Mrs. H. W. Hart, have re-
turned home.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Butt visited the
former's sisters in Hartsell Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Love of Tor-
onto are visiting the latter's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Scott. Mrs, Scott
underwent a tonsil operation Tuesday,
Mrs. Richard Rogers returned Mon-
day after spending two weeks at a
tourists' home at Godsrieh.
Mr. and Mrs. John R. Archibald of
Kitchener were renewing acquaint-
ances in town during the week end.
Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Gundy and Mrs.
McIntyre, all of Toronto, are spend-
ing a couple of weeks with Mrs. L. T.
DeLacey.
Mr. and Mrs, Bert Reid of Listowel
visited the former's aunts, Mrs. John
Sproat and Mrs. James Sproat.
Mr. and Mrs. M. McKellar and Mr.
and Mrs. John Ferguson were in
Drayton on Wednesday attending the
funeral of Mrs, Elizabeth McNabb,
an aunt of Mrs. McKellar and Mrs.

spending the summer holidays at the

turned to his home after visiting with

been visiting her brother Mr. W. E.

Marmora are spending a few weeks
with her mother, Mrs. W, Edmunds.
Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Wilson of Tor-
onto have been visiting the former's
nephew, Mr, D. H. Wilson and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. George Hills and dau-
ghter, Miss Ria Hills, have returned
after several weeks' visit. to Hearst,
Ont.
Mr. Jack Taman of Sudbury is vis-
iting his sister Mrs. Roy McGeoch.
Miss N. McDougall returns this
weak after several weeks' holiday at
Stoney Lake.

Mr. Alex Mitchell and Mr. John A.
Eckert have started threshing opera-
tions, and report the yield is good.
Harvesting operations will be ad-
vanced at an early datethis season,
as the dry, hot weather continues.
The weatherman predicts rain every
day, and by all appearances it rains
somewhere every day.
Mr. James Eckert spent the week
end with friends in Detroit and

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Richards and
family of Sarnia spent Saturday af-
ternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Leo Watt. The former, who is in the
employment of the Imperial Oil Com-
pany, was a chum of Mr. Leo Watt
while overseas and they have kept
up a correspondence ever since.
Burns' Church Sunday School pic-
nic was held on Thursday afternoon
of last week in Goderich with a very
nice attendance, and a very pleasant
afternoon was spent, although the
lake was rather rough for boat rid-
ing or much pleasure in the water.

members and their fathers was held
on the faun of Wilbur Turnbull, of

structive talk on "Soils and Fertil-
izers," and Mr. Shearer spoke on
"Weeds and Their Control." It was
decided to hold the next meeting in
the Library basement, at Brussels,
on August 2nd to choose the team to
represent the club at the competition
being held at Guelph in October, to
select the Ontario Champion Grain
Club Team, Sandwiches, ice cream
and refreshments were served by the.
Turnbull family at the conclusion of
the meeting.
and ,Tames Neilans from this neigh-
borhood attended the Masonic meet-
ing in Toronto last week and. Mr.
James Neilans was given 'the honor
of Deputy Grand Master for the com-
ing year. We wish to congratulate
Mr. Neilans and wish him a good
time as he attends the different lodge
meetings.
Mr. Leslie Beattie and Willie Tay-
lor left one day last week for the
West.
Wedding bells were ringing again
on Wednesday of last week, the 13th
supplying the groom. We wish Mr.
and Mrs. Colson a very happy mar-
ried life.

Had Sister at Barfield--
Mrs.
ayfield—Mrs. James C. Macdonald, the for-
mer Sarah MacNeil, of Goderich, died
at Port Dover in her 84th year after
an illness of several months. Surviv-
ing are five daughters and two sons,
Mrs, Andrew Lowe, Mrs. Henry
Misner, Mrs. Hugh Alien, Mrs. James
Muth, Mrs. Charles Nunn, James
Macdonald, all. of Port Dover and
Hugh, of Toronto, also one sister Mre.'
John Toms of Bayfield. The funeral
was held. Monday with burial in Port
Dover cemetery.
