Following the supper there will he a 'humorous Play presented by the Young People e of Ontario St. Church, Clinton, en- titled "Mamma's Baby Boy," which will he highly entertaining. Come and bring your friends. Supper and entertainment will be held in the shed if weather unfavorable. On Sundae, 'Tune 13th the Goshen. congregation will Observe the 70th anniversary of the building of their church. Rev, J. M. Keys, of Niagara Fall, 'News York, one of our own 'boys. will preach at ill a.m. and 7.30 p.m. A booklet has :been prepared containing a historical sketch of the n a n in - he .church, and early days aft rotation is extended to all our friends to join with us on this occasion. The large shed is 'being prepared and seated for the services, so 'there will be ample room to accommodate the crowd. VARNA The June meeting of the Varna W.M.S. was 'held on June 8 with the president in the chair. "For the Beau- ty of the Earth," was the opening hymn and Mrs. Peters led in prayer. Mrs. G. Johnston read the Bible les- son, Matt. 'S:58-48. Mr.. Johnston read a missionary" piece. Mrs. Fred Reid read the minutes of last meet- ing. Thirteen members answered roll call with word Beauty. A letter was• read urging us to take fresh air children for two weeks in the sum- mer. 'We :decided to order a copy of the frontiers of 'service. Bertha Diehl and Mrs. Sherlock Keyes each gave very inttresting reports of the Pres- byterial 'held in \Viughant. 'Meeting closed with the Mizpah 'benediction. \lr. and Mrs. Robert Moore -of Hensall spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reid, Ruby and Doris Reid returned with them .for the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Taylor spent Sunday at i•I•r. 'Garnet Taylor's. A number from here attended tate Orange service in Seaforth on Sunday. Several took in the Dowson picnic in Goderich on Friday. The many friends of Mrs, Thomas Baird of Stanley will• regret to shear that she was inured in a motor accid- ent in London on Jtut•e 17th. Her. face is badly cut and sheds suffering from bruises and will 'remain in London for some time. Haugh and 'Mrs. H. Zapfe attended the funeral of the late Mr. John Douglas at Blake last Thursday. Mrs. Jas. McQueen and Mrs. L. Forrest 'visited with Mr, and Mrs. Bird of 'Walton on Saturday. Rev. and Mrs. H. Wright attended the funeral of Mrs. Wright's uncle at Priceville last week. The Sacrament of the Lord's Sup- per was observed at ' the morning service last Sunday. Mrs, F. Hess of 'Hensall and 'Mrs. E. Esher of Biggar, Sask., visited with Mr, and Mrs. C. Haugh on Friday. Friends of 'Mrs. T, Baird who was in an auto accident •1n London on Wednesday, 'June '7th, hope she will soon be able to return to her home. The annual strawberry social will he held here on Tuesday evening, quite 20th. The Shields family of Mount Forest will put on the ' pro- gramme. A Bible Society meeting was held on Tuesday evening for'those inter- ested toward that worthy cause. The service at the Blake 'Church is being withdrawn on Sunday, June '18th at '10 a.m. owing -to the special anniversary service at the sister church on the 'Goshen Line. Mrs. J. Douglas was visited by relatives and friends from Seaforth and Michigan and Hyde Parlc, who also attended the funeral of the late Mr. Douglas on Thursday last. MANLEY Mr, John A. Eckart has returned home from Detroit where he spent a few- days with his friends there. He was accompanied by Mrs. John Mur- ray Jr. and Mr. James McQuaid. W. M. S.— The ladies of St. Andrew's Aux, 'held their June meeting at the home of Mrs. Horsey with Mrs. Finlayson in charge, assisted in the devotional period 'by Mrs. Cochrane and Mrs. Fairbairn. The programme which. was used .for a debate and in which most of those present took 'part, was based on the ibooklet "Should Can- ada admit Refugees?" ,pu'b1ished by the League of 1Nations Society for the Canadian national 'committee on .ref- ugees and victims of political persecu- tion. A most immediate and pressing .problem of Canadian citizenship is that of 'Canada's attitude and action in regard to European refugees. It is one to Which every W.M.-S. member needs to give thought in order to 'help sleet it in the best spirit -of Christian citizenship, The discussion was led by Mrs. H. Jones and matte an Interesting and instructive pro- gramme. REGEN THEATRES EGMONDVILLE The regular meeting of the Eg- mond'vlle 'W M S, was held at the home of, . Mrs. ''Jas. Brown, Railroad St., Seaforth, on June 8. Mrs. Rev. 'Gardiner; !president, occupied the chair, giving the call to worship" The meeting opened by singing (hymn 3716. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. Roll call was respond- ed to Iby,'114 ladies. Mrs. Gardiner then brought up unfinished 'business re- garding the presenting of every new balby of th•econgregation with a pair of 'bootees. 'Moved and seconded by Mrs. McMillan. and Mrs. J. Nott that we make bootees and volunteers were received. Planned to 'have the three quilts quilted at an early 'date. Pro- posed by Mrs. Gardiner that we have. a joint meeting with W.A. far 'July, The offering was now received 'by Mrs. McMillan and '.Mrs. McMillan gave our financial report, 'Mrs, Haney, led to readingwonshnp service by hymn 520, 'Mrs, Watson led in pray- er, Mrs. Ridhardson read scripture. Mrs. MdQ'uarry and Mrs. J. Nott gave short readings. Hymn 3106 was then read in unison. Closing this part of our meeting by repeating "Time Lord's Prayer," we were then fav- tired by an instrumental by Mrs. R. E. McKenzie, who led in a question afire and answers on the 'topic "Should Canada admit, refugees." This was 'ex- ceptionally 'handled ,by Mrs. Mac- Kenzie. Hymn. 3159 was •sung. Mrs. Gardiner closed Iby prayer. Lunch was ;lien served by the lunch com- mittee and a social half hour enjoyed. A vote ofthanks was extended to Mrs. Jas. Brown for her hospitality. Clarke has been very sick the 'past two weeks. Miss Olive ''Grimoldby of .McKillop spent the week end at her 'home here. Mr. Peter Papineau is at present renewing old acquaintances around the village. Mrs. David Milison visited friends in 'Clinton last week. Mr, Clifford Riley of Brussels spent last week with his aunt, 'Mrs. Robt, Grimoldlby. Mrs. Will 'Glazier of Clinton spent a couple of days with Mrs. Thos. Pollard last week. HULLETT A 'big reunion •picnic of 'the Old Boys and Girls and Fortner teachers of S.S. No. 4, Hullett, will the held on the school 'grounds, Friday afternoon, June R11, commencing at 1 o'clock, Fragrant of games and sparts is being arranged. There will be a 'booth on the 'grounds. A good time is expected. We hope there will be a large rally of the "'O'ld Boys and 'Girls. Please, bring' your basket to the :picnic supper. ,Mr, John McMillan is at .present confined to his roost. We all wish him a speedy 'recovery, A large mum'ber from this .vicinity were in London and Stratford last week to see their Majesties the King and Queen. The June meeting of the Tucker - smith Ladies' Club was 'held at the home of the president, Mrs. Austin Matheson, with 24 ladies present. The vice president Mrs. 'E'dwin .Johns -had charge of the meeting. Roll call was .answered by an item .of interest about the King or Queen whom most of the members had recently seen. O'Brien on Tune B2nd, Sports will commence at 7 o'clock sharp, followed by community 'singing and a weiner roast. All members and their fam- ilies plan to attend.
